What's Jason Smith's availability these days? When I look at Edmonton, that's the player I want.

I would say probably untouchable, with Pronger gone.

Yeah he's the closest we have left to a top pairing guy. He won't be leaving. If you think our D is bad now, see how it looks without Smith.

I knew the answer before I typed it, but I thought I'd ask. He's really the only guy that I'd want from Edmonton at the moment (at the cost of Zidlicky). In a few years, if/when Weber has assumed a top line role, a player like Matt Greene intrigues me. He has the potential to be a really strong 2nd pairing defenseman, but I think he's a few years off from that spot. And though the early results are enticing, I want to see how he plays a full 82 games in the "new" NHL which isn't really built for him as well as the old. He's not worth Zidlicky to the Preds at this stage because he wouldn’t really bring immediately physical help into the top four.

Let's do a Hamhuis for Hemsky trade and call it even, no?

Yeah moving Smith for Zidlicky would be a lateral move for us, it just creates a different hole in our D. So from that POV, moving our captain is unlikely. Good choice though. Smith would look very good in your lineup

Lol, dear lord, you've been reading that garbage thread? That's too bad, it isn't a shining example of our board. I am amazed it is still going. Oh and, no thanks on the Hamhuis for Hemsky move

After reading that thread, I'm ready to get as much as I can for Hammer. He's clearly peaked. Maybe we can get a #3rd rounder for him before people realize that he's maxed out as a 2nd pairing defenseman.

Yeah I know, some people are being a bit hard on Hamhuis. It is just a reaction to the OP as he is constantly trying to justify moving Hemsky. Don't get offended though. As good as Hamhuis is, Hemsky is just far more valued around our parts.

Just like the opposite is true for you guys.
