That's exactly it.. Watching a motivated Getzlaf, I almost forgot how good he is...

Here's hoping that tonight's loss sends the Duckies into a a nice little skid.

Just read this on NHL.com postgame recap.

Quote:
"We constantly kept saying in here how important these two points were – a division game, a team that's hot right now," Drew Doughty said. "For us to win that and come out and win that third period, that was the first time I felt we were clicking like we had last year. The crowd was going nuts. We just had all the momentum that third and they had no chance."
Emphasis mine. LOL gotta love it.

Another Doughty gem.

Quote:
"Souray's a huge guy and he's always trying to be an intimidator, all chirping and stuff like that," Doughty said. "For [Nolan] to step up like that and beat a guy that's bigger, stronger than him and beat him pretty good, too. It was great to see."

You mean that "underachieving" team that started slow and yet still has one less regulation win than the Ducks? That team?

The same team that lost twice as many time in regulation? That team?

Hopefully gone for good. Nobody can stand him on the Anaheim board, either.

Smoke and mirrors.

Quote:
One thing that happens every year in the NHL is a team jumps out to a really hot start despite a real low puck possession rate and a high PDO. Last season it was Minnesota (crashed in the second half). Before that, it was Dallas (crashed down the stretch) and the year before, Colorado (crashed down the stretch). There are some good candidates for that this year, but no team's record is more of a house or cards than the Anaheim Ducks. They lead the league in shooting percentage and an anonymous Swedish goalie played lights out for them at the start of his NHL career. Since the season is so short, the Ducks probably have enough points to make the playoffs right now even as they flame out, but I don't think they'll win their division.

...

That in mind, the Los Angeles Kings have played 11 road games and 5 home games. They lead the league in puck-possession. They're also close to going on a Chicago-style run. Compare their numbers to last week's stats: their goaltending has improved by 12 points and their shooting has improved by 8 points, and they've gone from 30th to 26th in PDO and won a couple of games.

Really reminded me of the team that won the cup in the 3rd. Just dominated every part of the game. Hits, goals, forecheck, defense, goaltending. It was all working.

Just got back from the game. Damn that was awesome. And that was a damn loud crowd too.

Some fun tidbits...

Over the course of two games, Ducks and Kings are 9-9 in GF/GA. They each beat each other by three. They each beat each other in the 3rd period. A solid back and forth battle so far this season.

Kopitar has had some games this year where he's played really well but didn't get any points. Tonight he played like crap (aside from a few nice little plays) and comes home with 3 points.

I really like what I saw from Brown. He was PISSED after he took that penalty that resulted in an Anaheim goal. He was on a mission after that.

Also loved Penner's game. When he plays like that, he fits this teams style perfectly.

Kings are gonna bust that team up if they meet in the playoffs.

Way too physical down low for the Ducks to contain over a 7 game series.
