hopefully...but plenty of times guys with concussions feel better and start skating and then get symptoms after pushing themselves and have to be shutdown again. sauer returned to practice 14 months ago and was shutdown again. not saying the 2 compare, just that nash skating doesn't prove either way.

We are just more scared than usual because of how long the Staal concussion lasted for, and the Sauer which we are still dealing with. Most concussions don't last as long as those, so I am hoping he can get back in the next few days if he's actually feeling better. (whatever is actually wrong with him)

Do we ever get an answer on how long our guys are going to be out for? Or are we playing keep away?

Seriously I mean it's getting a little ridiculous that we have 5 injured players, with no specific injury, or timetable for return. I mean seriously, I have a better chance of my dog carrying a conversation about rocket science, than of finding out what the deal is with our players.

As much as I would like to know, does it really matter if the fans know or not?

Does anyone remember a player with groin issues NOT getting treatment after a week off the ice? I'm sorry but unless Nash's groin muscle completely detached from the bone, then he would be at the training facility getting bioelectric therapy treatment, ice, compression, light stretching, etc.

Nothing leads us to believe a groin injury for him was that severe, nothing on the ice indicated that unless it occurred in practice. (And we would have heard it from the beat writers).

All signs point to a concussion now, and the reason he was not at that Rangers function was probably because he was seeing a specialist or staying away from the lights and action. It's just odd to me that he would have played games, went to practice, and 'tested' it in warmups. Extremely confusing.

The only other explanation to me is he's got a broken bone somewhere, stress fracture - something that just needs flat out rest and no treatment. Still find it odd and negligent to certain degree that the Rangers would let him go out in warmups to test a concussion, and play one of those games.

All I can think is that maybe his concussion symptoms all of a sudden got much worse by the time the road trip to Canada was starting.

Maybe they got much worse because he played a game? I mean concussions are MORE than a topic of discussion these days. You would have to think that the Rangers would be extra careful about brain injuries after dealing with Staals and Sauers.... Especially with Nash, your new star player.

Unless Nash lied to the Rangers and said it was something else, and now he's paying for it. Might be a reason why they are so tight-lipped?

Whatever the case, this sucks. Injuries are part of the game, but all of these concussions... Damn. How many players were playing with them in the 80's and 90's (or any era for that matter) and didn't know it? Is this just a phenomenon based on our increased diagnosis ability or has the game and its players changed that much? It's out of control.

Seems like 20% of the injuries now are concussions

Maybe its possible Nash felt totally fine for a few days before the symptoms came on. It doesn't really explain the testing during warmups though, unless he lied and said it was something else at first.

That was my point, what was he testing then? He would have had to lie to the Rangers big time.

This is what he said after the Caps game when he tested whatever it was that was ailing him and decided to go.

Quote:
And, as far as Rick Nash is concerned, he never doubted he would play tonight.

“I don’t think so,” said Nash, who extended his point streak to four games with an assist. “I just felt good in warmups. I had an extra day to rest the body. It’s just been a lot off games in a quick amount.”
This was the day before when he didn't practice:

Quote:
Rick Nash was not on the ice for today’s practice, the only Ranger to be rested. Nash, who has three goals and eight assists while averaging 21:18 of ice time -his career high in nine seasons with the Blue Jackets is 21:09 - will play tomorrow night.

“It’s just a body maintenance day,” coach John Tortorella said. “He’s played a lot of hockey.”
Fast forward to the next game when he was a late scratch:

Quote:
Tortorella did provide prior to Sunday’s game that Nash was “banged up.” And, if you recall in Mashinter’s pre-game comments, he mentioned a couple of Rangers being banged up beyond the concussed Darroll Powe.
That first quote from Nash signifies something wrong with the body... Unless something happened in the Caps game, I don't know... **** this you have to be Sherlock ****ing Holmes to find out

Very interesting. The sad part is that even when he comes back we will never know what was wrong.

still think it's the groin. this def sounds more body than head. i def think he was testing his lower body during the caps game...

Waiting to find out what's wrong with Nash reminds me of waiting for the lockout to end, except the lockout was going to end eventually.

You're better off not disclosing injuries. Undisclosed injury means they can't target a player's injury.

It also means the fans have no clue what's really going on with the players they pay for.

I'm going to go against the grain and say it's hemorrhoids.

Thing is if it's a concussion, what's wrong with saying it since players aren't supposed to target the head?

I can understand a shoulder, hip, leg, and even groin injury, but concussion?

McDonagh was at the facility today. A player doesn't receive treatment for a possible concussion.
I don't want to be paranoid, but how do you tell the diffrence between treatment and baseline test unless the door to the Dr. is open?

I want to buy the winning lottery ticket, and then accidently run it in the washer before he cash in on it. I want him to order home burgers, but get some vegetarian crap instead.

we don't lose anything by not knowing. we could lose something by a public announcement. we all know there are guys in the league that are going to take advantage of an injury if they know about it. if it's not a concussion people are basically clueless as to what it is, BUT if it is a concussion guys know he is going to be more prone to them. this is a smart move by the management and one that i fully support.

only scenario that feels alright to know upper/lower body when a guy is CLEARLY injured and we know how. (ie mcdonagh having an upper-body injury-- be it whiplash, a really bad broken nose or whatever)

these are real people believe it or not

Jesus Christ, Torts sits Kreider and sends down Thomas for Bickel and Mashinter....more jam, more grit, more sandpaper!
Let the kids play Tortellini! How are we supposed to get out of a funk with Powe and Boyle on the third line? Halpern, Bickel, Mashinter on the fourth? Oh boy.

It's not as if Kreider is scoring. If he's not scoring anyway, I'd rather have a player in the lineup that isn't clueless defensively.

The thing is though, I'd rather see Kreider sent down if he's not gonna play every day. He won't develop loafing around with the big team. If he's not ready for big minutes here, and send him to the minors where he'll get the big minutes.

if you're playing a team 6 times a year and have somebody disposable like carkner was in the ottawa series, you're not worried about the league taking action against him. if you know a guy is vulnerable, there's no doubt that there are people in the league who will go after the injury--first with clean checks, and occassionally with dirty 'headhunting' hits-- no matter what part of the body it is. think of a 7 game playoff series... it can happen no doubt. hossa just got elbowed in the back of the head the other night in what looked like the most blatantly obvious headhunt that i have ever seen in my life and the guy only gets 1 game. the rules won't deter everyone.
