No, you're still crazy for thinking all that would land the islanders 1st rounder. How do we even get MacKinnon ?

Ah, you're right. He's 16 now but only hits 18 after the 2014 season starts.

They could always spin it that way if they go after Perry or Getzlaf.

Indeed. the Islander don't need more high draft picks; they need solid veteran leaders; a proper support ensemble personnel. They can't have that with DiPietro in their lineup.

Weber though is a young prospect with interesting attributes. Not the best prospect but still, he has enough to attract teams. Keeping him in the press box is bad for his value, but also for his development. I always believed he could be a good bottom pairing/PP specialist type, with maybe top 4 ceiling. I feel bad for the kid, he should be playing. We should do him a favor and move him.
Weber is not that young. Playing him may be good for the player but bad for the team because he is inferior defensively. Moving him would be doing good for both the player and the team if the payment is even moderately acceptable, such as a third round draft choice in 2013.

Everything is possible, but not before season end. And prolly not before the lottery. Islanders might raise the price if they win #1

Instances of acquiring other teams' first round picks are infrequent for good reason. Not only are most teams reluctant to lose youthful talent but drafted players don't cost anything until they're signed. The trades for Tanguay and Kessel should serve as reminders of the folly.

RDS asked him about it earlier in the season and he said that he like to have depth at the defensive position and he sees it as a good thing.

What he is waiting for is a phone call cause no teams are interested in Kaberle

As for Weber he probably received bad offers and would rather hang on

He isnt waiting for anything. Kaberle will sit until he is bought out. Weber will go when he gets an offer for him.

The thing with Weber is that while we and MB would like to have a 3rd round pick at most for him, other teams probably won't give much more than a 5th.

Kaberle has negative trade value at this point.

The return for Weber would be small right now.

Better to keep them in case of injuries.

Wait a minute, I thought the Islanders were Charles Wang's really expensive sandbox. I don't see how they "can't afford" anything, the guy's rolling in the dough and doesn't seem to give a **** about expenses with the contracts he's thrown around in the past.

I don't think Kaberle is movable and as far as Weber I'd like to see him moved for a different type of d-man that is in a similar situation as him. What I mean is a guy who is not an everyday player but is more of a big body, crease clearing type. Perhaps a Theo Peckham, Jim Vandermeer type. I guess the key would be indentifiying a team that has lots of big body depth on d but could use some puck moving type d depth. I just don't think the Habs need Weber's skill set. They have a lot of d men who do the same thing but better and if one gets injured Kaberle can take his place as he likely isnt going anywhere anyways.

If he is keeping Weber for defensive depth than I prefer this type of return than a 5th round draft pick.

A. Wants to keep them both, to have a good depth for the playoff run.
B. Waits for the trade deadline to make is move.
C. Wants to keep Weber but unnable to trade Kaberle.
D. Wants to keep Kaberle, but the offers for Y.Weber are not good enough.
E. He has something else in mind and he wants to keep those assets to make a bigger move later.
F. Other option...
Kaberle is an underperforming veteran with an albatross contract. His value is to teams looking for veteran depth (which may even include the Montreal Canadiens) heading into the playoffs. At this point his play and his contract preclude us getting much value from him and if we continue on our path he's probably worth more to us as a periodic fill in than anything we'd get in return.

Weber is a mid-range prospect who has shown some promise but is not quite there yet. His value will be to teams selling at the deadline - teams who are trying to move older players and get value and youth back. The bottom line is he needs minutes. He can't get those minutes in the AHL without passing through waivers so he needs to be sent to a team that has room for him too. Ideally I'd like to upgrade one of our wingers or get some depth on the wings for him.

The only way that financially struggling franchise will get people to go to games when they jack up their prices after moving to Brooklyn is by having talent. They can't afford free agents, so where are they going to get talent? The draft. Not to mention the league would be livid, and the Islanders are in no position to make enemies with Bettman and friends. Dipietro is also good friends with Wang, Wang will have no problem spending money if it goes to Rick.

It's a nice fantasy though.

It's a good thing that poster didn't post it in the main boards or else we'll all get laughed at.

Di%ietro was put on wavers last week why would we trade for him? We could have got him for nothing

Not that the idea wasn't slightly cracked anyway but you're really missing the point if you think 'getting DiPietro' was anything other than a negative value in the proposal.

Sorry I definitely missed the first part. I'd do it if Molson was willing to foot the bill lol.
How bad are the NYlanders doing this year? Is it worth it for us?

Likely won't get an offer for either Kaberle or Weber. Not anything worth the work. Gagne goes for a conditional 4th, so Kaberle will get a lot less than that. Weber won't fetch a 2nd, as much as some like to believe, when other teams are placing guys like Hickey on waivers for others to grab without sending away some pieces.
