That Drouin shift is disgusting, he has some slick hands. I think he is the kind of player that even if he doesn't make it as a top 6 player, he could grind it out like Dan Cleary, chipping in some offense while playing a great two way game. I don't think he will be in that role, but he will make the NHL without a doubt.

It's hard to predict what type of NHL he will become,

A Datsyuk who you cannot check, or a Semin who is easily check able.

I think he does have enough talent to be Datsyuk-like, but I think MacKinnon would be a better choice for our team (even though I think Drouin is the better player). just talking about forwards here, because Jones is still the best player overall.

I prefer Zadorov than Nurse, but it's very close between the two.

And Zadorov is probably much closer to NHL-ready than Nurse is. That kid is a beast and could maybe even make the jump straight to the NHL next year.

Yea, and I usually have concerns with players like that, and think the Avs don't have enough.

I think Drouin just seems so aware of his surroundings though, and is so elusive that players wouldn't actually hit him that much. More like Datsyuk in that sense.

First NHL.com Mock Drafts are up:

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=6...d=nhl:topheads

Between the 3 they have us picking Monahan, Shinkaruk, or Lindholm at #9.

Gauthier seems to be really rising up people's boards, might end up as a top 10 pick if the size queens keep the hype going.

I would gladly take any one of those three guys at 9th overall.

Still think they consider Nurse too, if he's there still.

I could easily see the Avs picking guys like Monahan or Shinkaruk or even a guy like Lazar depending on where the Avs finish, and who's available. I'd be a bit surprised if they took a Swede like Lindholm though.

the more I look at it, the more I like the number 3 spot. Chances are Mackinnon and Jones go 1-2. Jesus I would love to see Drouin alongside Duchene.
Man I hope we get a top 3.
Add a ROR for a top 10... gaahhhh This could be a very important draft.

I always advocate to draft BPA. However I think that the Avs are at point in time that they should probably think about need and for me the RoR situation would dictate the way to go.

If RoR returns a dman to play with EJ, then I would pick the best forward available to increase our forward depth in the future.

If RoR re-signs or we trade him for forwards, then I would draft Zadorov. I think this guy could make the team right out of camp next year from what I read on him. Obviously you start him on the 3rd pair to give him a chance to get used to the NHL speed but then you move him up slowly with EJ.

Top 3 should always be best player available. After that draft for need. If we get the number 2 pick, and Jones goes first, we need to get Mackinnon even though we may be deep down the middle.

Anybody from Rychel down on that list could slide to the early 2nd (though I could easily see Rychel and Dickinson be picked in the 20s). Hartman or Bailey would be great 2nd round picks for us. Bailey's shot is drool worthy and has a really high ceiling. Hartman reminds me a lot of Downie or Darcy Tucker (the Lightning and Leaf version).

Hartman is definitely a 1st rounder, currently.
Rychel is a mid tier 1st rounder.

I see Bailey as a 3rd round selection; great potential, but extremely raw. Though I definitely wouldn't mind him as a 2nd rounder, reminds me of Chris Stewart.

So currently we are in 5th and using this site once again, http://www.draftsite.com/nhl/mock-draft/2013/. Here is my choice and only rule is I cannot select any player drafted before.

Rounds - BPA IMO
1. Valery Nichushkin, RW
2. Valentin Zykov, LW
3. Linus Arnesson, D
4. Juuso Ikonen, LW
5. Cole Cassels, C
6. Jesse Lees, D
7. Tomas Török, LW

Yeah that is my draft and watching Avs drafting two Russians in the first two rounds will never happen.

That is why I said could slide. Every year there is somebody who slides from that 15-20 mark out of the first round.

Hartman should be a first rounder IMO, but I don't think he will be. I see him being picked in the 30s. Simply because I think teams will load up on defensemen again this year (I see 11-12 picked in the first round) and combine that with one team going for a Fucale. I just don't see Hartman being in the first 20 forwards selected, and this is a case where I am really hoping I am right. If he isn't in the first 20, the Avs have a real shot at grabbing him in the 2nd.

Using that site I like:
1. Lindholm
2. Wennburg (would be a steal)
3. Morin
4. Lipon (I'm still a bit angry we didn't get a chance to sign him)

I can't really comment on much beyond those. Getting to the point where I haven't seen/paid attention to them enough.

Based mostly off the players I see every day out west, I would want:

1. Barkov or Lindholm (I think top 5 are Jones, MacKinnon, Drouin, Barkov, Lindholm)

2. Mirco Muller (doubt he is still there in round 2)

3. Nic Petan (I think he's an early 2nd round, if not a 1st)

4. Stephen Harper

5. Alex Forsberg (Good value at this spot)

6. Brendan Burke (Son of Sean Burke. Fantastic goalie prospect)

7. Matt Needham (Speed to burn, fairly good compete level)

Forsberg terrifies me. I wouldn't spend anything other than a 7th on him. The best way to get him IMO would be to invite him to camp and judge him and his character up close for a short bit. If he looks good enough, then sign him to a deal.

Agreed, definitely Barkov after Jones, Mooseheads'.

Great player, he will be in the top 10 of the 2nd rounder, IMO.

Another great player, I see him as a 2nd to early 3rd. We both agree he is probably gone.

Really underrated player, has everything the Avs love.

I think Avs stay far, far away from him.

I would be surprised if he fell to 7th round, I think he will go somewhere in the 3rdish.

I would pick Lees in the 6th round (if he is there) and Burke in the 7th.

What is about this Alex Forsberg guy? Haven't heard of him.

I've always liked him as a player. You sometimes can't pass up on talent just because he's made some noise and some tough decisions in his WHL career. You never really know who's driving his bus either...could be his agent or family.

Either way I wouldn't mind taking a shot on him in a later round. Is a very talented kid.

Former 1st overall pick in the WHL draft. Went to the PG Cougars, a place that's famous for not being good in the standings or being great at developing NHL talent in recent years.

Played there for a year and a half until this season decided not to return to the team after Christmas break. He basically said that they needed to trade him or that he wouldn't come back.

Well, the Cougars didn't trade him. And he's been playing in the SJHL, which is a big notch below the WHL. Either way, the league is still a good place for some prospects to develop and I still think he'll get drafted..it just won't be as high as some might have though 1-3 years ago. He used to be talked about as a potential top 10 pick in the draft.

I still like his talent level, even though he's pretty weak and doesn't have a great work ethic on the ice.

If he is supertalented, but have some attitude-problems, why is people afraid to spend a 5th rounder on him...?
