is it just me or does he leave his feet on over half those hits?

There's a difference between jumping before a hit, and succumbing to Newton's third law of motion once the hit is initiated.

newton's third law doesn't force you to go up. he is rising in most of the hits. the second hit near the beginning, he is clearly in the air before any contact.

Kronwall is a cheapshot artist, opportunist, high hitter.

Not necessarily, but as is evidenced by roughly 90% (made up number) of all big hits, the hitter ends up airborne after the point of contact.

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure he's given up on hitting altogether.

Kronwall is reviled. Stevens is revered. Never stop being you, hfboards.

He leaves his feet on #3, 8 & 9 of the top 10. No issue with any of the rest of them. You can explode upwards into a hit without your skates coming off the ice, but those three he definitely jumps into in my view.

As a Detroit fan I wish he was half the cheap shot artist as you guys claim. Maybe then he'd lay a hit once every 15 games instead of every 30.

Edit: I'm not saying the hits aren't dirty, since some of them are borderline, but the amount of discussion this guy gets in comparison to amount of dangerous plays he commits is ridiculous. Kronwall is NOT a physical defensemen in most cases. Laying a moderately borderline illegal highlight level hit every half season is no where near as damaging as players with "truculence" who spear and do less noticeable instances every single game.

You learn very early on if you skate up with your head down you're gonna get run. Every player knows it. Kronwall plays right along the edge. That's what makes him a great hitter.

He hasn't laid any big hits this season though, so the timing of this thread makes me laugh.

I really hate Detroit but the most he's guilty of is maybe charging.

Every once and awhile he leaves the ice before a hit but its so rare.

I'm neither here nor there if this is a debate, but do find it odd that he checks with his back so much. I'd imagine his kidneys'd be in a dumpster behind a rink by the time he was 16 if he tried developing that technique in Canada as a youngster.

You noticed him switch to that style of hitting when a lot of guys started getting called for elbows and targeting the head. A lot of the time its a judgment call of the ref and by leading with your backside there is no way your elbowing or sticking your shoulder into a players head.

The only thing the OP video proved was that Kronwall could be the one if not the best open ice hitter in the NHL

On the and Miettinen and Heatley hits, he definitely left his feed before contact. The Havlat hit is questionable.

He's basically the modern day Ulf Samuelsson. Everyone can see that he's jumping into his hits. If he wasn't doing it, there wouldn't be a constant issue over it.

And no, a screenshot of him with the tips of his blades making slight contact with the ice does not prove that he had both feet "planted firmly" at the time of the hit.

Stevens was a tough guy that backed up his play with his fists. Kornwall just wants to play a tough guy on tv.

I love hitting but I think if you want to run around smearing people you need to answer the bell. That's as much a part of hockey as hitting to me.

Or even better get rid of a lot of this armor the Kronwalls and Ulfs have always hid behind. Lose the turtle shells and see who wants to take the damage.
