Because they are already getting beat without taking many chances.

Detroit is allowing 3 goals per game. That's kinda high for them. That puts them tied with LA (great defensive team!) and Toronto (not so great defensive team). So I don't think you can make too many big leaps on the limited sample size, but they are clearly getting scored on more than they like.

So after Cocoa gets hurt in the warmup, who do you guys think will sit? Will Lashoff's extension effectively eliminate him from the "rotation?"

I think Lashoff is more likely to be demoted than to sit.

Really? Wouldn't he be exposed to waivers?

No. This current season is Lashoff's last year off being waiver exempt.

Waivers has nothing to do with what type of contract a player has, but rather how many years service the player has in Pro hockey. Once any given player passes the threshold for Pro service it makes no difference whether that player is on a 1-way or 2-way deal, they have to pass through waivers. Conversely, if a player has a 1-way or 2-way contract but hasn't passed the service threshold, they are waiver exempt.

Right, I knew the difference between 1-way and 2-way, I just didn't know if the new contract extension would have anything to do with his waiver eligibility, or remember what the game number threshold was.

Which is why I figure he'll be sent down. Kronwall, E, Smith, Q, White, and CC will play before him if all of them are healthy. And I think Holland is more comfortable putting Kindl in the pressbox than Lashoff, if Lashoff could be playing every night in GR.

However, I do think Holland will look to package one of the D in a trade for an upgrade somewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if we see all of the waiver exempt guys moved back to GR just to be brought up, and some starting, once the playoffs begin.

Assuming enough healthy bodies, agreed on all points.

Quincey was absolutely awful the first few games but he's been solid and one of our best +/- d-men since. Considering his contract I would prefer to move him though. 3.75 mil for him is pretty outrageous.

Yeah, contract-wise, this is Ericsson all over again -- is he or isn't he worth it -- except we know what we're getting with Quincey, and it's nowhere near worth $3.75m.

However, I still can't agree with him being solid. He hasn't been terrible, but despite his +/-, he hasn't been anything remotely resembling good; Kindl has handily outplayed him in all aspects given his limited time, and between the two, keeping Kindl is the no-brainer.

Solid may have been a overstatement lol. No where near worth his price tag.

I'm also guessing Lashoff goes down to GR so he can keep playing. Holland will try to move Kindl to keep Babcock happy. Colo may last only a night or 2 before he's hurt again and then Lashoff comes back up.

Haha, fair enough. If you think he's been solid, that's your opinion -- I don't have to think you're sane though.

Send Lashoff to GR and let him play 25 min a night.

Instead of one thread for every injury, and bumping different ones, let's just keep this the official thread.

The latest:
Quote:
Helm hasn't played hockey in a month, hasn't even skated in that time, hasn't so much as worked out. He went to see another specialist Monday in New York, and the diagnosis remains the same.

In other injury updates, forward Johan Franzen (hip flexor) is expected to play Wednesday. Backup goaltender Jonas Gustavsson missed Sunday's game because of a tender groin, but he's on the trip, and "we're anticipating that he's ready to dress," Holland said.

Defenseman Brendan Smith (shoulder) is expected back as early as Wednesday or, at the latest, Sunday, when the Wings host Chicago. Defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo (shoulder) is close and might be ready Sunday.

My take: If they've waited this long with Smith and Cola, they might aswell wait the extra game. The current guys won the last two games so roll them and don't rush anyone back, especially not shoulder injuries.

Pretty much. The D has looked respectable for the most part, so let them keep plugging away and make sure those guys are healed up right.

In case anyone missed it Helm has a small tear in a disc, it's said to be a 6-8 week injury from when it happened. That was Jan 10th, so 8 weeks from then is March 7th so he might be back soon, he hopes to starting skating again this week.

I am hoping Fils problems this year have been injury related. We need him to perform at last year's level or move him

When did they eventually find the tear? It seemed like he has seen a different specialist every week...
