Going back a day in the news, but how/why did Lars Anderson fall out of favour so significantly? Or is it more a case of being overrated to begin with?

I don't really expect anything out of Lars, but I do remember when he was fairly highly regarded. Was that all a smoke-show for a Boston prospect?

The first half of TSN shows all canadian content. First Leaf highlights, followed by all NHL Canadian teams, followed by Raptors etc. Only then in the 2nd half of the show does TSN show US teams only because that's all that is left to show. If there were 29 canadian teams and 1 American team it would be the same... I'm actually surprised how much Jays info there is on ESPN. I would say there is quite a bit of attention on the Jays though considering all they have done.
I expect them to talk about the team they said they're about to talk about.

It really should have nothing to do with being a Canadian team or anything. If they stated they're going to preview the Blue Jays as a team and then proceeded to talk almost solely about a player on a team other than the Jays, then that's extremely poor broadcasting period.

Sure, in Canada, if there was one American team in hockey, there'd be very little attention paid to that team, but I can tell you I'd be the first person all over, say, TSN if they had a 30-team preview show and proceeded to talk all about a Canadian team when the American team's timeslot in the preview came up. I'd honestly feel cheated and like I wasn't given what I was promised, which was a 30-team preview of the league.

In theory. In reality they talked about Dickey getting hit around a bit in his start, then used like 3 or 4 minutes to discuss what the loss of Curtis Granderson means to the Yankees. And how Derek Jeter is the 2nd coming of Jesus and they're waiting on baited breath for the moment he shows them that he can walk on water.

I'm surprised they also didn't find a way to work Tim Tebow in there, since clearly "discuss the Blue Jays" was code for "nobody gives a **** about some Canadian team, let's talk about stuff we want to."
All I know is I am loving the karma for the yankees fans chanting "USA" when Bautista hurt his wrist. 0 pity from me for Granderson.

Romero pitches a 1-2-3 1st throwing 4 pitches.

4 of the first 5 batters reach including a lead off double for Bonifacio, RBI single for Davis and a homer from Adam Lind.

Also, apparently over 400 000 people watched the game on Sunday.

According to Tim & Sid, that was the average reg season TV broadcast from last year, but I'm a little dubious of that. Maybe for a weekday afternoon game.

Seriously I'm confused here. As a Blue Jays fan for the past 20 years, I'm not sure I know any other baseball words that start with "p".

Propecia? Did he hook up with Theodore in a Dunedin parking lot?

Gameday doesnt count pitches for ST games. every AB is 1 pitch, except walks which are counted as 4.

Also, Ricky's velo is way down, sitting high 80s. Nothing to be concerned about, but something to pay attention to.

Isn't it fairly customary for pitchers to ease themselves up to full pitch speed? I'm not too worried either.

I was going based on the actual called number of pitches. Romero actually threw only 4 pitches (against 3 batters). I did not even look at the gameday page on MLB.com or any other website.

But anyway, even if it was as you said, the number of pitches should have been 3, no? 1-2-3 inning means 3 batters, which means 3 pitches if every AB is 1 pitch.

Gameday had it at 3 thrown in the 1st, thought maybe you mistyped or got glitched. Actually, I'm looking at it now and its strange. Every ball put in play is counted as 1 pitch, but for homers where all the pitches are counted. Strikouts are counted as 3 pitches (always as swinging strikes), and walks as 4 pitches.

I've got Phillies/Yankees on and the Phils crew has been very complementary of the Jays whenever they're brought up. Good to hear.

Looks like romero started where he left off last year purely based on his pitching line.

If they promise a segment to talk about the Blue Jays, use it to talk about the Blue Jays. I couldn't care less if 99% of the time ESPN doesn't give a crap about Canadian teams in the NBA or MLB. But if you're doing a team-by-team preview of the league and set aside a segment specifically for a team I expect them to use it for the team they promised to. I'd be just as pissed if they had spend several minutes in the Red Sox segment talking about the Blue Jays roster overhaul just because it sort of ties to the Sox via John Farrell.

Lott got some info from Ricky on his start

Of his 34 pitches, Romero estimated that 90-95% were sinkers. He seemed unconcerned that he threw 19 balls. He says is determined to revive the sinker, in the full knowledge that it can be difficult to control at times.

So that explains the velo, and the walks

It was 456 000 viewed the game which translates into over 2 million people having viewed at least a part of the game. That's insane and is a record for sportsnet for a grapefruit league game. Broke the record by 20%

It's because of his speed (I would bet he's 99/99/99) and they probably gave him good contact/discipline.
