Somehow I doubt it. It was mostly execs and lawyers to be honest.

George McPhee....The Teflon GM. 15 years of failure and counting....
6 - Number of playoff series the Capitals have won since George McPhee took over as General Manager in 1997 (which makes him the third-longest-tenured GM in the League), three of which came in McPhee's first season on the job.
Semin was never going ride a segway around DC in his jersey looking like an asshat, or give interviews, or change a fan's tire, or talk to the player in the locker room stall next to him, or bother to pour a conveniently-located glass of water on a kitten which was on fire and somehow that translates into being a team cancer? That's just the nature of being in a private person in a public profession.
Anyways, I think Staal's response was the right one, you stick up for your teammates, even if they're just exquisitely-talented d-bags. I'm guessing Semin plays well tonight.
I love how people take warranted criticism of Semin and turn it into "you're saying he's a cancer". I can't remember any regular Caps posters who have suggested that.
Just another diversionary tactic to turn things into a pissing contest so you can ignore the player's warts.

You literally said that his lack of community service was a reason not to re-sign him.
I too remember the posts about Semin's lack of reading to small children at public libraries and visiting them in the hospital as a reason to not re-sign him.

Careful. Quoting his own words back to him so he can't weasel his way around his own irrationality may result in him putting you on his ignore list. Which would be tragic for you.
Will be there tonight. Hopefully the board's Seminists will not. I don't want it to turn into a Tom Jones like concert with them showering Sasha with their undergarments.
A lot has been said about Semin's past on here, and i'm not going to rehash anyone's argument, but the fact that we finally got him a great 2C and then let him walk before they even played a game together just pisses me off.
It's also amusing to me how people say we took a step forward by letting him go... meanwhile we're last in the league so far in our first season sans-Sasha.

Don't let that record fool you.
Our team chemistry improved.
We no longer have silent, enigmatic Russians. We have loud mouth Canadians who don't even have their own teammates backs.
Notable Brouwer quotes and what he brings in terms of locker room chemistry:
“Me being on their team, how am I going to trust them as a teammate from now on? Because you know they’re not going to support players in the big scheme of things when you go and you play on the team with them; it’s going to be tough to want to back those guys from now on.”
"In his last 10 games – all of which have been spent playing on the right side – Ovechkin has totaled 53 shots on goal and 101 shots attempted; 26 were blocked and 22 missed. That rate would translate to a total of 435 shots on net over a full 82-game season, a figure that would rank as the third-highest mark of his NHL career.
Were Ovechkin to accumulate 435 shots on net in a season and score at his career shooting rate of 11.9%, he would finish an 82-game campaign with 52 goals, or just below the pace he established in his first five seasons."
Thanks for that info. Makes me hopeful for Ovie's sake!
I'm excited for tonight's game. I hope Sasha does well because I've always liked him and Brouwer is ****ing annoying, but naturally I want the Caps to win in a huge way.
Now that Ovie's scored so beautifully last game, I want Backstrom to have a breakout game!
He's pretending to be Ovechkin and shooting a lot and still not any better than a 20 goal scorer.
I could buy that. You could say the Cans have put Semin in a better situation to succeed. He spent most of his ice time in DC without a skilled C. GMGM had years to find him a someone to get him the puck and never did. Semin did have some great nights with the SOB line. But for the most part he was with lesser players.
For what its worth I would take Ribs over Semin if I had to pick.
