4th if the team doesnt make the playoffs and a 3rd if they do.

A 3rd for Gagne makes more sense in my opinion. The 4th rounder will probably turn into a scrub whereas if Simon finds anything left of his game, the flyers have a second/third line forward.

Nice trade for Philly. He has the potential to bring the team around and Philly only had to give up conditional fourth round pick for him. Good luck to Simon and his old team!

True, I'm really tired so I'm not thinking nor expressing my self properly. I think it's a good deal for both them since Kings get rid of a contract and get an ok return.

Philly get a good player with kind of cult status for the club. And they need more people to fill up the line up.

Lombardi using Gagne's experience in LA as a strong argument for why UFAs should sign in LA...because they'll get treated right.

Another decent draft pick for Lombardi to play with, and Gagne gets to go home. Win-win.

This is great for Gagne. The only thing wrong with him is that he wasn't in the Atlantic, so he wasn't getting his annual 20 goals against the Rangers. Really affected his stats.

Love this for Philly, I'm sure the Kings have a reason for this as well.

Classy move by Lombardi.

Hope Gagne regains his form back in Philly.

I have no expectations for him, but regardless, I'm happy that he's back. He's probably my favorite player to play for the Flyers and hopefully no more Knuble.

I think it dealt more with going back home for Gagne and good standing relationship between the Kings and Flyers.

It's a 3rd rounder... unless the Flyers don't make the playoffs.

I take this trade and run as a Kings fan. Move a guy for a 4th or possibly a 3rd who isn't playing and was a complete non-factor in the run to the Cup? You say he is UFA at the end of this season and won't be coming back anyways?

Yes please.

Kings don't have a 1st rounder due to the Carter trade so Lombardi is attempting to stock up on picks in what is considered a deep draft. Looking at his track record in LA with picks outside of the first round, this trade could bode very well for LA in the future.

I don't believe there were better offers as I feel he is more valuable to Philly since they know him and the fans love him there as well. At worst, Philly's offer was probably on par with others, although it wouldn't surprise me if DL and Hextall went directly to Holmgren and Holmgren only. Looks good on Lombardi's part to move him back home.

Gagne can't complain though: Gets his name on the Cup and finds a surgeon in LA who was willing to perform the procedure on his neck while collecting $3.5MM. Now he gets to plauy in a wide open system that could help his next contract value out as well.

Agree with the Kings fan who mentioned the numbers game when Martinez comes off of IR. Only waiver exempt players on the roster are guys who you want on the roster so now Lombardi doesn't have to try and squeeze Drewiske, Muzzin or Ellerby through waivers.

I'm 100% certain this deal was for Philly only. Lombardi did Gagne a favour.

This is more of a "Vegas handshake" favor deal than anything else - cap dump, hockey trade, or otherwise. Gagne had a rough go here in LA. Started off pretty well at the beginning of last year playing with Kopitar and Williams, then started experiencing concussion symptoms which put him on IR all the way up until the SCF. Had offseason surgery which removed a benign lump around the size of a tennis ball from the back of his neck. Gagne reported over the offseason, after the surgery, that he was feeling great. That got a lot of us really excited about the possibility of a healthy-for-the-first-time-in-years Gagne potting a lot of goals next to Kopitar or Richards. Sadly, things didn't go as planned.

Flyers fans should know that they're getting a steal here. Gagne is completely healthy and if put in a scoring role should do you guys a solid. He didn't fit in to the kind of system Sutter likes to run. To be successful in Sutter's system you have to be able to grind it out along the boards, even in a scoring role. Gagne is just not that kind of player, even when healthy, and simply fell to the numbers game here in LA. Gagne back in the eastern conference, in a scoring role, on an offensively inclined team, with plenty of open ice, should still be a really good player.

Bummed to see him go. I felt he was getting over scrutinized a bit too much this year, but the Kings are rolling right now and we simply didn't have a spot for him anymore. Farewell, sweet prince.

What happened to Simon? He was once considered one of the top wingers in the game.

He got old and injuries. I'm sure he will put up a few more points with the Flyers open system. Sutter likes tough hockey players and Gagne is far from that.

Injuries and being misused (at least that's how I feel about the latter).

Haha, maybe at the deadline, RJ, when your cap hit is at its smallest...
