The only thing is why break up the team when it's in 1st place. Seems odd, the team is doing well.
The thing is Cole had little to do with the team being where it is in the standings. After his retirement comments during the lockout I really question his motivation and desire to keep playing. He looked very disinterested this season.
I think Cole-for-Ryder trade is a good trade for both teams. I think Ryder would fit perfectly with Eller-Galchenyuk. Ryder has a quick wrist-er. Cole has 2 years left on a $4.5 mil while Ryder is off the books this year. Ryder is 2 years younger and still have something left. Bergervin did Cole a favor cuz Cole wanted to be closer to home in Carolina.
Call me crazy, but I think Ryder with Eller + gally will be nuts.
I was thinking that also. Ryder is a better passer than Cole which allows for better flow on the transition between the three players.
I don't know about you, but the past couple of games, our best offensive line was Eller, Galchenyuk and Cole. Would be pretty cool to see Eller, galchenyuk and Ryder emerge as the team's go to offensive line.
Crazy good trade for Montreal. Erik Cole isn't very good. Not to mention his contract. Ryder is younger, is actually producing a very solid amount of points and has had success in Montreal in the past (I remember his hat trick against the Leafs on the last game of the season years back). Not to mention the pick. Nieuwendyk looks out to lunch on this one.
Perfect trade imo! So funny seeing some guys here hating the trade and just looking at it like Ryder for Cole. Look at the bigger picture... You don't think Bergevin wanted him out of the dressing room? Have you guys not seen his compete level in the defensive zone?! Ya he has looked better the past couple games but this is the same guy that was threatening to retire... you think he was working hard in the off season and came into the season hungry? I dread thinking of how he would have been in his final year here. Wait till Bergevin signs a bruiser on the back end with his cap space, then you'll all be saying what a genius he is!

Erik Cole is pretty good actually, just not performing this year. His skillset is unique, not afraid of traffic at all but that contract is not looking good.
I love it. **** Cole and his sense of entitlement. Ryder always loved playing here and now the team has a pure offensive sniper. Bourque basically replaced Cole's hitting and effort this season anyways.
