Bergevin found a taker for a guy who has two more years on his contract who basically showed up out of shape and got a sniper who can match Cole easily in production. Ryder will help the Habs and is playing for a contract. Plus a third rounder. Habs won this trade on a couple of fronts.
Why are so many people saying they HATE Ryder? What am I missing?
Follow the herd.
The first page was pretty negative. So, a lot of people hit the reply button and post something else negative.
It takes about 8-10 pages for the flow to change directions once rational posters take over and explain how this is really a great trade for this season and the next couple of years moving forward.
I'm a Bruins fan but obviously I follow the habs closely. I don't like this deal. Montreal is playing so well and I think Cole is a much better fit than Ryder in Montreal. Cole was also helping kids like Galchenyuk and Eller develop. Why mess with that when you're in first. Why go back in time to Ryder?
Considering Cole likely wanted out, Bergevin couldn't have gotten a better deal I think.

Actually I think Ryder will be a better fit with this team. This team lacked a sniper on the wing. They have enough playmakers but not enough players that can shoot the puck. I think this is a great deal today and going forward into the offseason.
That actually has nothing to do with it. Its more to do with being a lazy bum who quit on the team. The paper airplane incident (while I believe overblown) was the big event that symbolized he no longer gave a ****. His mercenary like actions since then (this is the 3rd team who has now given up on him since 2009) show that he's not exactly an important part of a team.
Ryder is a lazy player, i was so happy when he was gone. I am happy that is UFA at seasons end. Maybe the plan is to go for a top talent FA this summer.
Michael Ryder: 35 goals - 27 assists - 62 points
Erik Cole: 35 goals - 26 assists - 61 points.
We hated Ryder in Montreal, couldn't wait till he left. This is what happens when you get an outsider GM who doesn't know what's going on here. If he knew our recent history, we would not have gotten Ryder back, we could not have been beaten by the Leafs like it happened against the Bruins.

I agree, Cole's game is more needed in montreal but it's a matter of flexibility. That contract wasn't attractive and we dumped it after getting the best year Cole probably had left in him.
I get thet cap space side of things, but I find it odd to give up so early on Cole when we all know he is a slow starter. He was just heating up. And he was much more fitting MT's in your face style than Ryder, was a big body, a good leader. Really not sure I like this move.

1. CAP SPACE savings
2. younger and cheaper
3. Cole has sucked the whole year
We just added a dangerous shot to our team, a 3rd round pick, saved salary and got rid of a player who didn't want to play in MTL anymore or in the NHL.
I don't understand how someone could hate this trade.
