Like this deal for the Habs. Even if Ryder doesn't perform well, he's UFA so we get an extra 3.5 at the end of the year to potentially find a replacement. Plus there's the 2013 3rd round pick.

I really liked Cole last season, but I found the way he acted during the lockout really immature. I still like him as a player though, despite his awful start.

Maybe people remember paper airplanes from the pressbox?

I never really liked Ryder, but at least the only thing he can bring is a thing we need - snipers are in short supply in our current roster. The fact that he's UFA next summer is cherry on the cupake. Cole had a career year last season, so I doubt anything he could do here would be considered anything else than a failure.

We hated Ryder in Montreal, couldn't wait till he left. This is what happens when you get an outsider GM who doesn't know what's going on here. If he knew our recent history, we would not have gotten Ryder back, we could not have been beaten by the Leafs like it happened against the Bruins.

Habs gets a whole lot softer.
Cant agree more. The good thing is only one year left. I like the third round pick.

Interesting move, Cole is owed 8M after this season, so we save money and cap space while getting a short term replacement and a top 90 pick which if it's the Stars 3rd could well be in the 70's.

There are a lot of things that we, the fans, are unaware of. This trade, for example. No one saw it coming yet a trade like this does not happen overnight.

I agree with you that it is overkill for them to be celebrating and gloating that they knew about this all along. But hell, they are looking for ratings.

Looked pretty good over the last week, just took him a bit of time to get going.

He was upset about the lockout just like a lot of players.

No need to needlessly crucify him. He did nothing but good in his time here both as a teammate and performance-wise, never spoke ill about this city and seemed to be a genuinely good guy to have around.

I still hate Ryder with a passion, but it's a good trade. Well done MB.

NTC. Montreal asked him to waive probably.

well I hope it works out and it doesn't mess with the chemistry. Cole played in front of the net which made him valuable. I know he started off slow but he still had size and passing skills. I wonder if Ryder if happy to return to an organization that sent him packing years ago

Ryder is way better now than when he left.

Cole was looking for a trade to the US to send his daughter to an American school.

Did Ryder play for us when MT coached the first time in MTL? If so how did he do under MT before?

I'm sure you'll be excited for this draft. Apparently deep, 1 1st, 3 2nds and 2 3rds. Not bad.
