Why did Chiarelli trade Benny Pou?

Why did the Bruins allow Tim Thomas to walk?

Your team has its own issues. Take them there to your board and discuss the next small player Lucic will start a fight with.

Conference call in 15 mins w/Ryder. 1) Will it be on TSN990? 2) Can we make sure that CTV lady doesn't pop in again?

Ryder will be a HUGE addition on our powerplay, a a good right handed shot was really needed.

If you follow us so closely you'll know that Pacioretty is a better version of Cole and that we lack a true sniper immensely. Ryder will be a great fit on our PP.

Because Cole sure helped out the Habs in their wins against the Leafs and Bruins this year, right?

Oh wait, they didn't beat them... and they got out-muscled. What difference does this change?

Bringing up the paper airplanes thing, really? One again narrative and "character" going over usefulness. Ryder is a one dimension mecenary, but he's a one dimensional mercenary with one of the best wrist shots in the league.

He's not as good as Cole, but his offensive production is at least as good, and Cole hasn't been as important as he was last year anyway.

Idiot Coach Carbo gave up on Ryder. So why would he care?

I wouldn't say he looked good, but he did look better. However, "better" was still a shadow of last year. We couldn't expect him to keep having seasons like the one he did last year, that's for sure. I do think this team lacks a Ryder more than they do a Cole. They have a bunch of guys that can crash the net, but they don't have a guy that can pick corners with little room.

Long time reader, first time posting!

Was never a ryder fan, but he's a ufa this year so getting a contract off the books for this summer is HUGE. And he's doing well this season, steps in tied with the team lead in points.

He plays RW from what I remember, where does he fit into the lineup? New lines??

We lose for this year, but gain much needed cap space for next year UFA crop (I dream of Perry!!!)

... oh and I never liked Ryder, can't say I'm thrilled... would have prefered a 1st rounder.

Wow, this is a great deal!
Ryder not only has superior statistics, but he's less of a cap hit, is UFA at the end of the season, is younger, does not fall on his ass every time he is checked...
Cole had a no trade clause in his contract. Remember him talking about sending getting his kids into the US school system? Retirement? Jeez, this is an upside in every single way for the habs. UFA season will be ridiculous this summer with Perry, Getzlaf, Backstrom, Clowe, Ribeiro, Dupuis, Cervenka, Roy....this gives us extra cap space and after buying out Kaberle, we are definately going after one of these guys. I would love to see Clowe and Perry in a CH jersey!
Great hockey move by Bergevin!

I don't know how I feel about this trade...

When you look at what each of them brings to the table, the things that stand out are...

- Cole is faster, hits more, doesn't float around the perimeter as often, and is usually a lot harder on the puck.

- Ryder has a better shot and he has been having a better year so far in terms of offensive production.

Overall, I think that we become an easier team to play against. Ryder is slower, smaller, and softer on the puck. But he does bring his scoring touch.

Mind you, Bergevin and Therrien have been preaching that it's important to have players with "character" to become tougher to play against as a team. Maybe, in their assessment, Ryder fits that mould better than Cole, at least right now.

I'm impress with MB's first big trade. I can't wait to see what he can fetch once he really gets his mojo going. This is exciting stuff

Everyone is screaming FFS in the Stars forum, lots of them say the exact thing haters here say, better have a pick attached to it/this is terrible etc.

We're getting the good end in this, we need an experienced sniper and not only do we get Ryder but he is now our scoring leader .

Bourque - Plek - Ryder sounds about right except Bourque is on IR with a concussion so they'll be playing with Gio I suppose.

I think this is a smart move. The Habs let go of a contract that could hurt them next season and get a player who can help short term. He is a good hockey player with a knack for scoring.
