This is the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a long time.

There was a tweet citing a Holmgren quote that Gagne wll play on a 'high' line.

I'd probably play him with Couturier, too... I was just speculating based on the tweet.

My favorite flyer is back! Time to dust off the old number 12.

Why trade for gagne if we're tanking?

Our forwards are dropping like flies. We need warm bodies.

Seriously, I cringe every time I hear Brian Boucher's name. I know he just went on to become your average goaltender, but I can't help but remember that 5 OT loss when he was a rookie.

Gagne will be with Giroux and Iginla as soon as Holmgren trades Voracek and a 1st to Calgary.

I don't know why he even covers the Flyers. If he's not complaining about Bryz or other players not wanting to talk to him, he's trashing the team. I honestly hate the guy. Just looking at him on tv infuriates me.
He looks like a night club manager in 1986...

Can't we call someone up from our deep and impressive prospect pool?

Lots of water flowed under the bridge today apparently. We were collectively pretty convinced that Gagne would never, never come back after being shown the door.

He is potentially one hell of an upgrade over Barney Knubble.

Such a solid move with Matt Read being hurt for the next month plus. Brings back nostalgia and a very solid player for the rest of the year. You really cannot go wrong here.

gagne is class. glad he came back home. was a very classy move by lombardi. glad he was able to get a cup with the kings. if any one deserved a stanley cup ring, simon gagne is one guy that truly deserved it.

Meh...lateral move...I like Gagne but his best days seem behind him. If he plays a perimeter game and doesnt want to grind like he was prone to doing here after returning from his many injuries then not sure how effective he will be. Willing to see what he still has though..we def need some help.

Briere is on a deal with 2 more years at a 6.5 mill cap hit, while Gagne is off the books after this season.

Harry Z. switches to jersey #37. Gagne has #12.

Making the trade conditional for a third is more shrewd than classy. I would not view this as some kind of altruistic favor necessarily.

I agree, he freed up 3.5 mil in cap space for a 3rd rounder.

Gustafsson should just be given #11 or something and keep it and give Harry Z 29 back.

Congrats to everyone who gets to dust off their jerseys. These are the types of trades that are out there this time of the year (roughly a third to halfway through). The Flyers are desperate for help obviously, and didn't have the room to trade for Erik Cole (not that I wanted his contract) or Michael Ryder (and a 3rd round pick? what?). They might say Gagne will play on a top line, but the reality is that he is a 10th forward who should probably ideally play with Couturier.

The contract has always sucked since day 1. Not Briere, but the contract. Add his penchant for using his stick as a weapon and how incredibly poor he is defensively, it's not a big surprise. He does have a knack of scoring important goals which prevents him from being run out of town by the fans.

Lombardi is pretty stingy when it comes to trading. He got more for Gagne, who was a healthy scratch and shouldn't have had even this much value, than he did for Ryan Smyth, considering that he was only taking Colin Fraser to buy him out.
