That sounds fairly good, though I'd get rid of the hyphen.

And please still, put Columbus and Carolina in the "Central" Division, and Florida and Tampa Bay in the Atlantic. Please!
That would be the icing on the cake for these 4-Division realignment modifications.

Call it the 'Fly-Over States' Division!!

.... though considering the "Midwest" will have teams in Colorado, Tennessee, Texas, and Manitoba, I'd like to think that they wouldn't name the division after a geographic region that over half the teams aren't even within. Just name it the Central and call whatever they're planning on calling the Central something else.

So I'm guessing this will be the last year the "Northwest", "Northeast" and "Southeast" will have champion banners?

Patrick, Adams, Norris, Smythe
Patrick, Adams, Norris, Smythe
Patrick, Adams, Norris, Smythe
Patrick, Adams, Norris, Smythe
Patrick, Adams, Norris, Smythe
Patrick, Adams, Norris, Smythe
Patrick, Adams, Norris, Smythe
Patrick, Adams, Norris, Smythe
Patrick, Adams, Norris, Smythe

Is there really any other answer?

Clarence Campbell Conference
Prince of Wales Conference
Patrick, Adams, Norris, Smythe Divisions

Soooo easy, NHL. You can undo a few decades of utter ******** in one fell swoop. Get the Nords and the Whale back in the league (you already made the right move with the Jets) and it's going to start looking closer to the early 90s again. It's the right choice. That was the last time hockey was awesome.

First of all, I doubt the division names LeBrun tweeted out were legit.

I'd be surprised if they didn't go with geographical names, but it would be the right move.

Smythe, Norris, Patrick Adams - easy answer. Campbell and Wales for the conference names.

Also wouldn't mind division names like Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr, etc.

I think partly what's going on here with this alignment structure is an experiment, and as such they'll probably not change up the names too much until they see how the experiment plays out.

I like the Gretzky, Howe, Orr, and Richard conferences.

If they're naming them after executives, I say that they should go with the Torrey, Selke, Bowman, and Béliveau.

Since they're keeping the conferences, I guess the Northeast-Florida division can't be called the Eastern division. Central doesn't make sense, either, really.

Wales Conference - Atlantic and Eastern divisions

Campbell Conference - Central and Western divisions

boom shaka laka

Wouldn't it be nice if you didn't have to do that to figure out what people were talking about?

Understand that you are in the minority: most people would shrug and forget about it. Every details matters when you are trying to broaden your appeal.

Personaly Id prefer West, Central, East, and Atlantic

or West, Central, NorthEast, Atlantic

The problem with the old school names is that many fans who they are trying to attract arent sure what division they are in and who their divison teams are if they go with the Norris-Smythe names.

Geographical reference makes more sense to most from amarketing standpoint.

Calling Detroit, Buffalo....Montreal, boston the CENTRAL makes no F sense. Call it the Atlantic or East.

The other divsion can go by NorthEast, or Atlantic.

Is this where someone points out that those names only existed for 20 years of the NHL's entire existence?

But it was the name during the youth of a lot of the people on this board, and therefore 'tradition'.

I have trouble believing that the names of the divisions was what made hockey "awesome" for you in the 90s.

Names aren't going to work in today's day and age. You think Flyers and Rangers will want to play in a Lemieux Division?

Having the Bruins in the central division is just plain silly.

I'd rather they go back to the Adams, Patrick etc division names and "confuse" people than make the league look like idiots by putting the eastern most NHL franchise in the "Central" division. It's just lunacy.

OK then - which divisions go in which conferences

Is the Patrick Division in the Campbell Conference ('73-'74 - '80-'81) or in the Prince of Wales Conference ('81-'82 - '92-'93)?

Is the Norris Division in the Prince of Wales Conference ('73-'74 - '80-'81) or in the Campbell Conference ('81-'82 - '92-'93)?

Nah. It'll be something like Hockey Championship Subdivision and Hockey Bowl Subdivision - where the latter gets two playoff qualifiers and a bunch of exhibition games picked by trained monkeys, entrails, and computer rankings (programmed by trained monkeys).

Well, for whatever it's worth, NHL.com is backing LeBrun by the composition and the names of the realignment he tweeted about.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=657635

East = Atlantic & Central
West = Midwest & Pacific

.... seriously, I know it's a minor gripe, but drop the "Midwest," name that division the Central, and come up with some other name for the other eastern division.
