hi, just a passerby here

I always liked Ryder, looks great in a Habs uniform, good luck to the Habs and Ryder for the remainder of the year.

Ya must be hard to trade a guy who scored 35 goals last year.

to be honest I love this trade, ya I am not a chronic poster on these boards (im new) but I have been a hab fan my whole life, and enjoyed watching ryder back in the day, I think therrien had part in this because he played under him when he was here...And to all the nay sayers erik cole was as useful as a traffic cone this season, anything in exchange for him is a good trade, the guy was terrible. So this is a great trade.

Don't want to repeat what everyone else said, so i'll just say this. It's nice to see a GM who's proactive, who doesn't sit on his hands despite the team's performance. Cole clearly looked like a guy who didn't want to be here, and the longer he stayed, the more his value would have plummeted. I didn't really see Cole in their future plans, and i guess Bergevin didn't either. Ryder is a more polished, confident forward than the one we had here, and will fit in nice i feel.
Overall, a very good hockey deal, imo.

So with bourque out indefinitely, I would want to see our lines like this:

Pac-Plek-Gio
Eller-DD-Ryder
Prust-AGally-BGally
Moen-White-Armstrong

Thoughts?

Anybody think we actually resign him at the end of the year if he produces well?

Player-for-player, I don't like it...even with his slow start, we need players like Cole more than we need players like Ryder. And I really have to wonder about shaking up the chemistry of a team sitting on top of the Eastern conference.

However, if Bergevin figures the Cole we're seeing this year is the Cole we're going to get for the rest of his contract, I give him credit for cutting his losses while he can. Maybe in 2 years if Cole is still sucking it up for the Stars I'll be thankful we got out while we could.

It sort of seems like the Spacek-for-Kaberle deal but in reverse. Maybe a little short term loss for long term benefit. Although, if Cole and Ryder both keep playing the way they are now, it won't even be short term loss.

I wonder what Bergevin's plan is in the off season with the added cap space and the top-six winger slot now open. Hmmm..

Anyway I think my biggest concern is the timing. Any time you make a move like this when things are going so well for your team, it's a gamble. Hope it pays off.

This is the first thing I thought of when I heard about the trade. Bergevin gearing up for the UFAs.

They are very similar in terms of production, even historically. Ryder has about 50 fewer points in 70 fewer games. Not sure why the outrage.

As others have said, It should help our PP. Also Gally/Eller or DD could use a natural goal scorer.

Even if Perry is a pipe dream, there's a lot of interesting UFAs this summer.

I'd try:

Ryder - Plek - Gio
Pac - DD - Gallagher
Prust - Eller - Galch
Moen - White - Armstrong

Thought Prust on the line with Plek & Gio made very little sense.
