Just out of curiousity, does anyone know the reason why Ramo chose to go to the KHL after his stint in the NHL? Why did he not stay in the NHL? Was he simply not ready.

I thought that was only for free agent players, such as Nabokov last year. If he is still Flames' property, does he still have to clear waivers?

In his final year with the Lightning, he put up a 0.894 sv% and a 3.66 GAA in 24 NHL games and 0.884 sv% and 3.78 GAA in 26 AHL games. He was struggling mightily and was the backup behind Smith.

He wanted to be a starter but it wasn't happening in the NHL at that point in time. He could make more in the KHL, plus be guaranteed the starter position.

He wanted more playing time and didn't want to just be a backup, he left for the KHL and has been arguably the best goalie in that league over the last 3 years.

Wow, I never knew. Thanks for sharing, it would have been bad if we had gotten our hopes up for nothing.

Hmm, good point. I'm not 100% sure, because I guess Ramo is technically an RFA.

Does he still have to even if he is already Flames property?

I do believe the waiver rule only applies to free agents signing from outside leagues.

But he isn't going to leave his KHL team mid season anyways.

By the way, his team Avangard just lost and are down 2-1 in the series (which I believe is a best of 7). He allowed 4 goals on 17 shots, clearly wants to be able to come to Calgary ASAP.

As I'm up at this time anyhow, I wanted to see if I could watch Ramo's Playoffs, and found gold, 5 am tomorrow morning.

I love watching Ramo play, he plays with such swagger and confidence, always 2-3 feet outside the crease, a really tight stance, and extremely calm and controlled movements, got scored on twice this morning, but only due to some really crappy bounces, outside of that, he was extremely solid, not to mention Avangard finally figured out how to hockey. Every time I watch Ramo, I get more excited about him playing here, as I believe the way he plays and his confidence will really translate into good NHL goaltending.

He was rushed into the NHL by a floundering team, I don't know if you can blame those numbers on him as much as on the organization not developing a promising young goalie properly.

Mark Spector said it prior to the boadcast tonight from what I gather, but if Spector is the source its about as reliable as an original Volkswagen that has never been serviced

First round, tied 2-2, he is playing extremely well, Avangard is not however, first three games he has let in 4 goals and was 1-2, Avangard had 2 goals by that point, in the fourth game though, Avangard won 5-2 so I think they might be rolling now. It would be quite the upset if they lost this round being the number 2 seed. Games go as follows:

AVG 1 - Sib 0
AVG 0 - Sib 1
AVG 1 - Sib 3
AVG 5 - Sib 2
