Love Cole. He seems to always be having fun. I think his comments this off-season about his daughter attending high school was a real concern. He accepted the trade for a reason.

I'll miss the guy, but I like the trade.

Best of luck, Erik. It was fun!

Nothing but good wishes for the guy who was the biggest bright spot in last year's black hole of a season. He'll probably end up having a solid season in Dallas. Good luck, Eric, and thanks for some terrific moments!

Thanks for the good memories Cole. Wished we could have got more out of you for longer but I guess when you retire before the season even starts then you probably don't inspire much from your teammates. Enjoy the golfing in Dallas

Wait a minute.
This is the Habs we are talking about.
Cole traded in mid season?????????????
WTF..... their has to be a story behind this event.
Either Cole asked for the trade or Cole had a big time clash with Habs new management. If this is MB looking way ahead down the road and this is a dump at the right time all the better.
But I tell you, there IS a story behind this move.

There are stories behind a lot of moves, most of which we'll never know. In this case, I'd guess this was more of an opportunity. Bergevin has his eye on the future and is freeing as much cap space as possible.

This $1 million savings gives us almost $10 million of space to do some serious UFA shopping this summer. And guess what -- the Habs are suddenly a hot up-and-coming team whose stock has become much more attractive to players. We usually have no chance at snagging star UFAs, but this year may be different.

What kind of UFA can we afford? In one year we have to re-sign PK, Emelin, Diaz and Eller. That's approx $6 million more per year committed to salaries (obviously that's a total guess). But at the same time, Gionta and Markov's contracts are up and Kaberle is probably bought out already, freeing up $15 million.

EDIT: Numbers are a bit optimistic for next season (forgot we have a few roster spots to fill) but with a Kabs buyout we may be able to wiggle our way to enough room for a UFA.

Under previous management this would have been more than likely
Not now under the new regime i don't think

Good riddance I would say !!

He did good last season, but the team finish at the bottom of the league so with or without Cole, it would've been the same.

I didn't like his attitude at the beginning of the season with the retirement thing. Apparently, according to RDS, Cole was a bad influence in the locker room. I wouldn't be surprise if it turn out to be true... The guy was already gone in his mind.

Marc Bergevin shipped him out of this town as soon as he saw the deteriated situation.

Impressive move by the rookie GM

#Habs: Toujours Cole sur Therrien: "On a eu une dernière discussion et il m'a dit qu'il appréciait mon leadership."

In case some idiots here decide to spew crap about Cole being a cancer in the room.

Price: Salut Erik. Gonna miss ya brother

Gorges: I wanna wish my good buddy Erik Cole all the best in Dallas!!!! Truly one of the good guys in the game today #beauty #enjoythesun

There is another thread to talk about the trade, this one is to say goodbye to Erik.

I'll miss what he brought to the team. MaxPac really developed with him. His move down the right wing to the net rarely ended in a goal but usually drew a penalty. He seemed to have a great sense of humour and looked to be a great teammate.

I hope the Stars don't parlay this into a trade to an eastern team. He was a habs killer while in Carolina.

Best of luck Erik

Same here.

Cole lost a step in 2013 (he looks slower) but he was one of the few bright spots last season. He did sound like a spoiled teenager when the lock out ended but overall, he seemed like a nice guy.

His patented take the puck and cut to net was beautiful to watch. A shame he couldn't find his feet faster this year.

Erik giving his credit card to Leblanc for his first NHL game has to rank as one of the best stories you'll ever hear, really just pure class there.

Loved him last year but didn't like him since day 1 when he said he wanted to retire.

This was probably the right time to move him before he became completely untradable. He could still have a few good years left in him tho. Habs fans will remember him as the guy who made our 1st line so amazing last year.

A player I always liked signs with the Habs, puts up 35 goals and then gets traded 20 games into his next season. Not just that, but traded for a former Hab I never really liked, outside of his rookie year.

Sweet.

Best of luck in Dallas, I guess.

RDS always seems to find a story where a Hab being traded was "bad in the room" every time they are shipped out of town. Coincidence? Who knows. But they, nor we, aren't in there most of the time.

That being said, I'll miss ya Colesy! You were my favorite player last year!

The point of this thread is to lament Cole leaving, not push forward the anti-Gionta drivel. I think he's got a dedicated joke of a thread for that plus any GDT/PGT you'll find.
