Damn.

OKC loses 4-3 in the 10th round of the shoot-out.

Hovinen is now 2-0-1 for the Barons.

Oklahoma City Barons ‏@OKC_Barons
Pelss gets two points, Rajala two points, and Tyrvainen scores the first penalty shot in #OKCBarons history, but Texas gets the shootout win

I asked over in the prospects thread but maybe more suitable here... for those that have watched him... do you feel the acquisition of Hovinen has essentially leapfrogged him over Bunz and Roy in the org depth chart?

I know he's older than both so that maybe makes sense but do you think the Oilers keep Hovinen up in the AHL all season and maybe not re-sign Danis after this season? Then bring either Bunz/Roy up from Stockton next season to split with Hovinen?

I suppose it's possible the Oil may sign Danis again as a backup for Dubnyk as well and acquiring Hovinen was in anticipation of that... not wanting 2 inexperienced, young goalies like Bunz and Roy carrying the whole load in OKC next season.

Yeah, it seems he's hopped them.

Hovinen was fairly highly touted when he was signed and some Finnish posters said he was the best goalie in the SM liiga a couple seasons ago.

Depending on how the rest of the season goes, we might even see Hovinen backing up Dubnyk next season.

It is interesting that the Flyers would give up on Hovinen especially with their goalie struggles in the past. I think if Hovinen can emerge as a lead guy in OKC they need to trade Yann and have Roy still in OKC. I do not see Hovinen in the AHL next year.

Seems like a fresh start was what Hovinen needed. We stole a good goalie prospect and at the same time put less pressure on Roy and Bunz who need more time to develop.

I agree, gotta give the Oilers credit for being on the ball with this waiver pickup.

I criticized them for years (still ongoing ) for missing out on Grabner... but this looks like it could be a strong addition to the system.

Philly is notorious for mishandling/misjudging goalies, so when we picked up this former Flyer, I knew it would be good.

I read an article recently about the ECHL team Hovinen played for, apparently he actually put the lease of his apartment in his name since the team stopped paying the rent earlier to the point where they got an eviction notice, and he didn't want to get the boot. I guess they've since received a second eviction notice.

Barons have signed Nathan Deck to a 2 way AHL contract. Reliable depth for OKC/Stockton good move.

I have to admit with the return of the NHL my attention has been away from the Barons.
I caught Todd Nelson talking on Mark Spectors show about Marincin the other day, he had some high praise for him. Anybody watching OKC regularly notice his defensive game being picked up a notch or two ?

The Barons did or the Oilers did? I don't recall hearing about 2 way AHL deals, usually it's just called an AHL deal and then if the player doesn't cut the mustard they get sent to the ECHL.

I think key difference is AHL salary vs ECHL salary on a two way deal.
Just allows them to pay him less when he's in Stockton.

Sounded like the barons, but it was odd that they called it two-way.

I never would have thought Rajala would be one of our best AHL players.

He had decent enough numbers in Finland for a 20 year old. Who knows, maybe we got a bit of a player here somewhere down the line.

Newly signed CJ Stretch scores the game winner in 3-2 win over Texas.

Great name. Great moustache.

OKC's GM is on a roll.

The Barons are playing the West leading Texas Stars tough again. 3-3 at the start of the 3rd period. Cheechoo is having another good game.

It's funny that this team grew a set of balls once the NHLers (no offense to J. Schultz) went back to work.

Just a quick question for those of you who are able to watch/listen to both Oilers and OKC games, do they play a similar system? Teams like Ottawa, Toronto and TBL seem to have similar systems and that helps guys transition back and forth.

Well, the Barons can score goals... which is a change of pace from the Oilers, AHL or not.

Anyway, the Barons won 5-4 in a shootout.

Who has OKCs best D man been since Schultz left? Marincins numbers are nice.

I haven't seen any games, but statistically, Brett Clark has done very well.
