I'm not a Danica fan, and her post-race interview didn't do anything to change that. Quite frankly she came across as just short of *****ing about not winning the race. "My spotter didn't tell me where to go" "Didn't have a partner to make the last push" that kind of crap. If she doesn't tone that down I'll quickly go into full-blown detractor mode.

Not a great 500 but worlds better than the two-car-tango crap. So glad to see that gone. Good to see JJ & BK picking up where they left off last year.

You are lying if you said you wouldn't file a suit too.

Don't know about you but I think it's reasonable to think you should be protected from a stray tire and engine and car shrapnel from maiming you. Otherwise tracks would have to move back grandstands if they don't want to be culpable at all for fan safety.

Actually, I realize the potential dangers in sitting a few hundred feet away from race cars going 180+mph. So I don't even put myself in to that position.

If you want to be protected, sit in the infield or the upper grandstands. Either that or go watch football.

ESPN, Turner take wait-and-see approach on NASCAR talks

http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/J...er-NASCAR.aspx

Quote:
Even though ESPN and Turnerís exclusive negotiating windows for NASCARís media rights expire in late summer, the networks still are months away from serious talks, according to several sources. The exclusive window formally starts in early summer, but networks and leagues frequently start negotiations well before that time.

The fact that ESPN and Turnerís top executives were not in Daytona last week is a sign that the networks are opting to wait and see how well NASCARís TV ratings and ad sales perform during the early part of the season.

Publicly, ESPN and Turner executives say they are happy with NASCAR and want to keep the packages.

ďThereís no secret we want to continue that conversation with these guys,Ē said Julie Sobieski, ESPNís vice president of programming and acquisitions. ďOur negotiating window doesnít begin until later this year. So right now weíre excited about the start of the season and weíre putting all of our efforts toward that.Ē

Privately, network executives last week expressed concern about NASCARís TV performance, which last season posted its lowest viewership numbers for its current deals. The 2012 races averaged 5.79 million viewers, which was down 10 percent from the previous year. ESPN is less concerned with the Nationwide Series, which draws fewer viewers (an average of 1.99 million watched 32 races last season), but has been growing.

There is one big reason why ESPN and Turner may try to do deals before their exclusive negotiating windows end: NBC is waiting in the wings and has made no secret of its desire to partner with the racing circuit. NBC Sports Group Chairman Mark Lazarus has a long history with NASCAR, having worked with the group during stints at Turner Sports and CSE. Sources said NASCAR also is warming to the idea of working with NBC.

The biggest question deals with the number of packages NASCAR plans to sell. Currently, Fox has 13 races, Turner has six and ESPN has 17. Thereís a chance NASCAR may combine the Turner and ESPN packages, sources say.

Still, ESPN and Turner are not feeling pressure to lock down rights early.

Crash a car into the stands each Saturday. That should do it.

"Fix its awful-looking website."

Amen to that! That redesigned monstrosity is a disgrace on both computers and phones. Take the responsible web designers out into the street, shoot 'em, then hang their heads on pikes outside NASCAR HQ as an example!

The website is an epic fail. I was trying to find the past winners section for phoenix. All I found was a slider thing that goes from 1990 to 2010 on the track page. Lame.

I did find the past winners, but i had to google it. Should be able to find that quite easily on nascar.com

It is almost like they handed NASCAR.com to a high school web page design class.

It can't be good for business. It took me 10 minutes to find the Raceview / Race audio page.

nascar's web site has been lousy forever. Why do you think Jayski has been the place to find everything for many years?

I can't figure it out at all, I've been going to other outlets even for simple stuff like what time is qualifying. Just terrible.
