Guy was great for us last year and I always liked him. Despite the fact that I didn't like the deal, I liked the player. I wish him well.

This. I definitely soured on him over the lockout.

Was a little mad at the guy for his comments about retiring when lockout ended. He seemed really pissed off at the situation and I found him a little bit whiny at that time. This and the picture of him with the "Puck U Bettman" cap wasn't really cool too.

He did really good last season but was struggling this year and looked flat and off sync most of the time.

I wish him well with the Stars but I'm 150% happy with that Bergevin's move. Ryder will help the power play and is an upcoming UFA so more cap space to play that UFA game this summer and a third round pick aswell? Hell yeah. Trevor Timmins will strike again with 6 round picks in the first three rounds. That's a smart move from Bergevin.

Anyway... Goodbye Cole and hope you'll be happy in Texas.

Not much is said in there, but he really seemed to like what was being done in MTL.

Haven't been this disappointed in a player leaving the Habs since Koivu, no joke.

Cole was just so awesome last year. Hopefully this is Bergevin "selling high". If we re-sign Ryder to a similar contract then this is just ridiculous. I do have 100% faith in MB however.

Cole was great last year. He scored 35 goals and did great with Leblanc (inviting his parents).
Sad to see him go.

We will see the value of this trade. Especially with Ryder on PP.

Trade was done as Cole was starting produce again.
Erik will be happy to see the situation of the school of his children stabilize.

It's simple. Erik meant it when he said he had to consider his family. With his daughter starting high school in Quebec, he was feeling uneasy and was even considering retirement so they could all move back to the States. It showed in his play. This was his way out.

Yeah, Ryder's a right handed shot, PP help, blah blah. In the end, Cole will be happy and motivated in Dallas playing with two very skilled players in Roy and Loui and will quickly make us wish he was playing like that for us.

Truth is, he wouldn't have been playing like that for us due to very fair, real-world family concerns.

So, we made the best of a bad situation and at least got something for Cole.

Ryder will chip in with the occasional goal (it's no given that he will be at a 30-goal pace, hoping for him to be somewhere in the 20-goal pace region), and will step it up if we make the playoffs. But he won't have the game-to-game impact of Cole, is softer, worse defensively, and worse 5-on-5.

Odd that I've held such mixed opinions of a player so fast. On the one had he gave us something to actually cheer about last year, but on the other he was putz throughout the lockout. So I'll leave it at adieu

I like the deal, but his time here was way too short. He was loved by the fans, loved by his teammates and I feel sorry that things weren't working for him this year.

I hope he is happy in Dallas!

Also... I'm really surprised he accepted to lift his NTC.

Major mistake giving up a proven vet for a streaky, VERY STREAKY Mike Ryder...What was the problem with his kids going to school in Quebec ?..

All the best Cole ! Thanks for giving it your very best.

He was great last year. That's it for me. He took the money Montreal gave him, whined a little and then got what he wanted - out. And he had a signing bonus he was living off of while whining about others.

He gave the Habs a great year that in the grand scheme of things meant nothing. Fun to watch and liked the player more when he was a Cane. Good luck and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up a Cane yet. But glad he's gone.

Cap hit or not I don't give a ****, and I'm biased because I love him, but I don't understand. He was coming around too.
It was a BS contract from day one ... he should of got 2 years not 4

MG is a genius for unloading it now , if Cole was 26 its one thing , his time was up

These retarded GM`S never get it , when you overpay 9.5/10 you get burned

do you think the Rangers like the declining Richards for another 7 years , how is Jason Garrison looking these days , or maybe Komisarek and Kaberle , or Mike Green

overpaying for the right player for your team is one thing , but grossly overpaying the wrong guy on a team when clearly it was a mistake from day one , or expecting Richards at 31 when he has clealry shown signs of decline , you will get smoked for 9+ years just like Luongo , Dipietro , etc...

MG is showing savy as a rook GM

Totally forgot about this. An awesome gesture indeed.

He will be missed but there is nothing more behind this than contractual issues and his lack of motivation lately. Bergevin saw an opportunity and jumped all over it, nothing more.

I wish him well.

Well, he's back to being the Hab killer again. But he's out of the conference so the damage will be limited.

Cole's probably the happiest guy in the world today, he goes from paying the highest taxes in NA, to a place where they have the lowest. He'll get the best value out of the remainder of his contract now. Plus I'm sure being an American, he didn't appreciate paying those high taxes to a government that doesn't respect it's english speaking citizens. Good luck Cole, smart move.

Erik Cole was a beauty and I'm upset he won't get to be part of a great playoff run. Shouldn't have been dealt yesterday but I can see why Bergevin did it. It's not a bad trade, but it didn't need to be made. We're a first place team you don't mess with that over cap hits. Anyways, welcome Ryder, also a great player who will probably shoot a ton of pucks and put up some serious goals. Hopefully on Desharnais' RW.

Also Cole had a great ****ing mustache and you get credit for that.
