Habs. I'm from Gatineau originally and I'm 34 so that's who my dad/uncles/everybody followed. I was at the first game at the Civic Centre and from that day Sens > *. Still have a soft spot though...

After visiting the Bell Centre this year and going on a Habs tour, I really got a sense of the history and class (historically speaking) of the organization.

I'd vote for no one , but I like the Habs when we're not playing them. In that case, I loathe some of their fans.

Also love watching the Oilers but can't stand their fanbase, which at least on HF is infested with some individuals who were certainly not gifted with much wisdom or intelligence. I tried to say that nicely.

Flames: Liked them a lot since their cup run, but hate how they are managed now. Iginla one of my all time favourites.

Oilers: Like them and am a big fan of Yakupov, but I don't like the fact they "tanked" to get good.

Canucks: Liked them when they had Morrison, Naslund and Big Bert. Can't stand Lapierre and Burrows. There fans aren't the greatest either, don't love them but don't hate them. Favourite player now, Kevin Bieksa.

Jets: Love the fact that a team is back in the Peg, but that's about it. There fans are obnoxious and annoying, but I guess they're trying to be and it works. Do like Ladd a lot from his Chicago games.

Habs: Respect the hell out of the franchise and don't even mind the fans that much. I can tolerate Montreal/Ottawa games. But they still rub me the wrong way sometimes. Galchenyuk is a beauty and Price is my favourite goalie in the NHL.

Leafs: Don't really mind the actual players. But everything else I hate about them, the obnoxious fans, the management, the bigger than everyone attitude etc. **** the Leafs. Mike Brown you're cool.

It just makes me feel like a loser saying I live at home at 22 even though that's not even unusual haha!

Watching Lanny "The Other Stache" McDonald and Theo Fluery lift a cup are among my first and fondest hockey memories.

Also enjoy the city. Cannot hate.

Hate all the other Canadian teams, and their fans. Habs and Leafs equal at the top.

I was an Oilers fan in the 80's though.

Habs. They were my favourite team when I was younger (and didn't know any better ), and I still don't mind them. Koivu was my favourite player for a long time.

I used to be a Leafs fan as a kid... But now... Meh

I guess they'd rank

Montreal- Just an awesome history, building, atmosphere
Edmonton- exciting to watch
Winn/Vancouver- Dont really play much attention to them..
Calgary- They just stink... No real direction. Theyve got Matt Stajan. Enough said.
Toronto- They are actually not that bad to watch but cant root for them.

I'm an Ottawa fan, but like to watch hockey. So right now, the Oilers would be the one team I'll tune in to. Hate Vancouver and Toronto, Calgary has always been a snore, Montreal was my favorite growing up but now they annoy me, and Winnipeg is meh.

It will change over the years when the teams evolve into something different, although the Leafs hate is forever. It may turn into respect at some point, but not looking that way any time soon

Jets.
Their fans piss me off the least.

Honorable mention to Vancouver, my runner-up. I used to live there, so that counts for something, I guess.

The rest:
3) Calgary
4) Montreal
5) Edmonton
6) Toronto

Habs. And no apology. They're a good club with a long history. I was a fan of their's when I was a kid growing up in the 80s. Now I like the way they play. Montreal is a great city (I know this has nothing to do with hockey proper, but when you're talking about teams aside from your team, I think sentiment matters). In spite of our rivalry, I find their fans to be pretty decent, especially compared to the many yahoos from our other big rival.

Do I cheer for them in the regular season? No, because their standing has an impact on our standing. Would I cheer for them in the playoffs if the Sens were out and they were in? Hell yeah.

There it is.

They boo the top 2 or 3 players of every team that plays there.

I can't hold a grudge against such random booing... it doesn't even mean anything.

I hate the "Canada needs to win the cup regardless of team" nonsense that I hear everyday.

None.

Because the cup doesn't belong in Canada, it belongs to the best team in the league that year. It comes to Canada when Canadian players win. It mostly annoys me because conspiracy wingnuts think Gary Bettman is against Canadian teams and wants to "Americanize" the game without any incidents at all where it's being "Americanized"

I'm a fan of markets like Tampa or LA growing in popularity for the good of the game. A cup in Vancouver would be great for Vancouver but they don't need it to increase viewership - the market is plenty saturated as is. If they're the greatest team that league, awesome they deserve it.

More or less a ramble but it's the people that say it without any ideas of why are the reasons I find it annoying.

Sure. I get the whole non-traditional markets argument. I generally agree. But hockey fandom is based on sentiment, no? I mean, I started rooting for the Sens when I moved to Ottawa. I've become a fan. If I move away from Ottawa, I'll remain a fan, but only because I started seriously paying attention to hockey as an adult here in Ottawa.

I also have irrational attachments to secondary teams that I remember watching back in the 80s as a kid with my dad. Montreal, the Isles....

A lot of the arguments from HF board purists I hear about why people shouldn't cheer for the Canadian teams is pseudo-stats. I love particular players, systems... combinations. I guess. In that case, do an algorithm every year based on favourite players and team systems and pick a favourite team based on that. Of course that would be silly.

So yeah, I'd like prefer a Canadian team to win (aside from the Leafs). It's not an entitlement thing, it would just feel good. Does that make sense?
