Don't even see anything.
Stajan is a butterfly.
Like when he ran himself into Tom "Guillotine" Gilbers elbow.

This really isn't that late. Clean hit imho. Doubt we'll see any punishment.

Yeah, Stajan should have turned his back so Coyle could launch his face into the boards.

Hits like this aren't long for the game. Either they go, or the suits of armor go. When 200 pounds gets behind hard plastic and hits someone in the head, people are going to get hurt. Simple as that.

Cheers,

I just love how stajan was rolling around on the ice like he just got shot and then was completely fine in the 3rd.

Pretty pathetic attempt by Stajan to protect himself, but yeah... Shoulder to face. Ouch.

So if someone feels hurt he shouldn't stay on the ice?

Some Wild fans are hilarious Clutterbuck wasn't nearly as hurt as everyone thought after the hit he must have been faking?

Says who? Clutter is currently in crutches and is on IR. Won't play until next week at the earliest. Where do you get your information?

He needed help getting off the ice and cannot walk without crutches presently. I don't think that's walking... at all.

My point was he was on the ice for a long time and he wasn't nearly as hurt as people thought (thankfully) but to say someone was faking because they feel better later is ********.

I was exaggerating Clutterbucks situation obviously.

Perron scored the game winner after the Thornton hit, then proceeded to miss a year.

Landeskog returned to the ice after being rocked by Stuart, then proceeded to miss 11 games.

Obviously they both faked their injuries because they returned in the same game.

Definitely targeted the head. Stajan was barely moving after he shot the puck. The fact that he made contact with Stajan's chin told me Coyle knew what he was doing.

That's at least a game to me, maybe 2.

According to the NHL, Stajan has possession of the puck, even after shooting it, until it is played by another player. Watching the replay you can see that Stajan is hit at the same time that a Minnesota player touches the puck. So according to NHL rules this is not a late hit. This is exactly what "finishing your check" is all about. What could get Coyle in trouble is going for Stajan's head.

How the hell do you brace for a shoulder to the head? He was prepared for a shoulder to shoulder that didn't come because Coyle aimed for the head. If he had put his arms up to protect his head (which he shouldn't have to do), he probably would have gotten a penalty for elbowing, etc...

I doubt Coyle intended to hurt Stajan but the hit was a little late and to the head..1-2 games...

I'm curious how he's supposed to brace for a shoulder to the head.

Usually not, unless it's really bad. On a first offense, if the league feels it deserves something, I'd guess at 2 games max.

You are correct, I was saying what I would give him if it were up to me. The thought being that dealing with it harshly every time, it would make it something that players stay aware of.

Players are always encouraged to "finish their checks", not until recently has it been a priority to finish their checks cleanly and to try to avoid the head as the primary point of contact. It may be a few years before players avoid hitting the head as a normal part of their game because it has not been stressed to most of the guys in the league now.

I believe that a bit of a hardline stance needs to be taken over the next few years to get the message across. Crack down on guys now and they will make sure that they don't do that. It will become the culture of the league to avoid headshots and that is the goal, not penalizing any one person.

There is no such thing as a clean hit to the head.

Those were actual hits though, Coyle touched Stajan's head with his shoulder and you can see the proceeding dive from there (regardless of whether or not he has a concussion, it's a dive).

Turn your body? Lift your hands? Turn your face? Not just stand there staring blankly with no sense of your surroundings?

That replay is hilarious to watch if you just focus on Stajan, it's like he has no idea he's in the middle of a hockey game.

So... do everything you're not supposed to do to prepare yourself for a hit?

Turn sideways so your shoulder is taking the hit.
Raise your hands to push the player away.
Turn your face so your chin isn't taking the shoulder.

I'm not convinced there was intent to hit the head. Yes he hit it, but there's a clear mismatch where Coyle's shoulder is at the same level as Stajan's head. I'm especially not convinced it was that bad after watching the Gilbert hit on Stajan. He kinda likes to embellish things a little, doesn't he?

Clearly a shoulder right to the head, and Coyle went out of his way to do so. Obvious major; obvious suspension.

What I can't get over is the fact Stajan was allowed to return for the third period. Is the NHL's concussion protocol still this broken? Ray Charles could've seen he wasn't right after that hit, and his play noticeably dipped in quality in that third period.

It doesn't matter if he likes to embellish. It was late, and it was a shoulder to the face. That's all that matters.
