Oh dear, it's even worse that Callahan was wide open after the Jets d-man blew a tire.

Should have played it back to Callahan.

But you can kind of see the puck took a bad hop and he looked down to regain possession of it.

Go ahead and pause it at five seconds. show it to someone and ask if that play results in a goal.

better question is will this play result in an attempted shot (not even necessarily on goal!)

I love that the play by play guy just goes completely quiet for almost 5 seconds after Stepan goes behind the net. You can almost hear his palm meet his face.

Not that Stepan handled the situation well, but that's more of Pyatt's fault. He basically stood in the way and unnecessarily limited the amount of goal Stepan had to shoot at. As a result, Stepan hesitated. Still should have shot for the far post, though.

AMAZING!

There was a clear path to pass and a nice soft tip in, yet he just slowly went around the net. Classic.

I might pull this in my game tonight and see how my team reacts..

Bit of an unlucky play, since the puck was bouncing and he had trouble settling it down, but still a funny sequence.

Stepan ALWAYS needs to settle the puck down/it bounces over his stick. Dude needs to practice with Gordon Bombay on soft hands.

a) The puck hopped when Stepan received Callahan's pass so he couldn't one-time it or pass it back immediately. The pass was then taken away as an option.
b) Pyatt did a horrible job at giving Stepan room. Bad position to either tip, pass or one-time the puck.
c) Even if Stepan went behind the net, had Callahan connected on his pass then he would be shooting at an empty cage due to Pavelec falling over.

With that said, he probably should've shot stick side once he settled the puck or roofed it once he came close to the goal line.

Stepan obviously went to the Ryan Smyth hockey school. There they provide step-by-step checklists for every hockey player to follow when faced with a scoring chance:

1. Can you send a weak clapper into the goalies chest from the blue line?
2. If no, is there any way you can set-up in front of the net and deflect the puck?
3. If no, take it behind the net and try a wrap-around
4. Skate slowly back to your own defensive zone and prepare to pounce again

In theory and at first glance, it's funny.

but I agree with what he tried to do.

The puck bounces awkwardly off his stick, and by the time he retrieves it, there's little to shoot at/his teammate in the way... best play is to go behind the net... the goalie fell for it but the pass didn't work out.
