I wager you'll struggle to. This is just dramatics.

Glad to see Gagne back, we need a little more veteran presence in the line up. I heard he is being inserted in the top 6, would like to see him with Giroux and Voracek.
Its a joke the haters are saying he's too old...33 yrs old? c'mon Briere is 35 and can skate circles around some of the youngsters.

Even in a deep draft a 3rd rounder is a stretch to make an impact on the big club, much less a 4th if we don't go to the post season dance.

Gags will make a difference on this team for as long as he remains healthy and he will pick up some of the slack while Read is hurt.

Aside from making the team better, as was pointed out earlier in the discussion, i think a big aspect of this was the fanbase. I would go out on a limb and say Homer did this for us as much as he did it for the team. Gagne coming back will put butts in seats. Well we don't really have an issue with butts in seats, but it will make the seat occupying butts we already have, happier for the most part.

For a 3rd/4th rounder? why not?

That's pretty much all Briere has done this year

Ok maybe I misspoke, it doesn't go unnoticed (nothing on here ever does), but with the amount of *****ign that goes on when a 3rd rounder is traded, you would think there would be equal or at least close to equal excitement when one is acquired. Just a quick off the top of my head example...

Upshall and 2nd for Carcillo. Bad trade. No doubt about it. That second rounder is constantly thrown around and it was like five years ago when the trade was made. Flash forward to the 2010 draft. Homer turns Ryan Parent into a third round draft pick. People are excited for about a day. Rarely ever mentioned by anyone, especially those who criticize his draft pick management. Tell me that if he traded a third rounder for a player of Ryan Parent's caliber the colelctive Flyers board would not have a meltdown. Yet he acquires the pick and there is little fanfare. Why is that? Could it be that people are overvaluing these picks when they are traded away?

Lets move a little more forward to last year's draft. The Flyers got a second and two fourths for Bob. Complain all you want about the Flyers signing Bryz and how that is the reason for the trade and blah blah blah, the fact of the matter is he got a second and two fourths for him, more than most thought he would get. Those picks are not as valuable as the ones he has traded away for some reason. No great praise for getting these picks. But again, tell me that if the Flyers traded a second and two fourths for an unproven goalie coming off a horrendous season and even more horrendous playoffs that people would not absolutely lose their minds about Homer wasting such valuable assets.

The fact of the matter is, picks are extremely overvalued by people on here when they are traded away. The number one thing people complain about is Homer trading away picks. He rarely gets any credit for acquiring draft picks. You would think that with amount of **** he gets for trading picks, that people would jump for joy when he acquires a pick.

He wasn't at today's morning skate due to the timing of his flight from the west coast. There has been specualtion from media but nothing from coaches as to which line: likely second or third line duty. He is all but guaranteed to be playing.

Been there, done that.

Same thing as Bryz. Product of a system...the same system, in fact.

38 years old. Just took a year off from hockey. Not a good idea IMO.

I think we're better off keeping Bryz. He's played well most of the season and there aren't too many options to replace him. We can buy out Briere if we have to and that will hopefully solve this cap issue. I don't really think there is an issue, though. Homer and the rest of the organization should have researched Gagne's cap hit with regards to the new CBA and should be familiar with all the scenarios that can result from the move. I say "should" with lots of hope. We'll see what happens...
I say if we can get a young ready guy...go do it. But I would keep Bryz for one more year just in case. Ottawa will still have 3 guys who should be in the NHL.

Lol, this is almost identical to my response in a different post to the issue of what happens if we buyout Bryz. I like the way you think!

The only NHL regular the Flyers have drafted in in the 4th round or later over the past 10 drafts is Zac Rinaldo (I don't consider McGinn a regular yet). Even over that same span, the only 3rd rounders of note are Alex Picard and Colin Fraser and they were both from that ridiculous 2003 draft. Thats 62 draft picks with 3 NHL players.

I'd take Gagne for those odds.

Only took his first shift for me to see how great a trade this was. So good to have Gagne back and he was FLYING tonight. Great to see him keep tallying goals in the O and B

I've been watching a lot of Kings games. Gagne didn't look bad per se, but he didn't look like he fit in with the heavy forechecking and grinding system in L.A. He doesn't play the physical game that Sutter likes from his forwards.
