thread title comes from William Wordsworth's famous sonnet, The World Is Too Much with Us.

Quote:
The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers;
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!
This Sea that bares her bosom to the moon,
The winds that will be howling at all hours,
And are up-gathered now like sleeping flowers,
For this, for everything, we are out of tune;
It moves us not. --Great God! I'd rather be
A Pagan suckled in a creed outworn;
So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,
Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;
Have sight of Proteus rising from the sea;
Or hear old Triton blow his wreathèd horn.
KIRK should be especially pleased by a title which harnesses his 'two good wingers each for Sid and Geno' paradigm.

For some vets, what about:

Hejduk
Umberger
Ryan Smyth (Edmonton retains salary somehow)
Bertuzzi? (probably not)

Anyone that criticizes my choices or anyone else's choices, should probably give a reason why and provide their own choices, rather than looking like an overgrown, pompous *********.

As much as i really want to get the winger situation fixed this year I would love to see who gets bought out next year and can be had cheaply. I think we're going to see some pretty big names on that list.

It must be nice to be Ray Shero. It seems no matter what he does or doesnt do fans will blindly defend him. Hindsight is 20/20! We don't have cap room to sign anyone respectable. Now Shero has cap room and he signs Tanner Glass.

I find it hard to believe Shero aggressively pursued Semin. He just doesn't seem like a disco type player being that he has skill and not a grinder.

If Shero didn't actively pursue Semin he should be reprimanded by Mario. You finally can address the lack of wingers and you pass. So instead of signing Semin you go into the season with Tangradi in the top 6. Anyone with half of a brain knew Tangradi is crap. He isn't even a guaranteed nhl player, let alone a top 6 solution.

So your saying Semin is not a DB type player but he should of signed him? Why would shero go sign players who DB doesn't want to coach?

You have too much semin in you.

He wasn't an option. I'd like to have him. But it was obvious he wasn't coming here.

Malkin isnt a disco type player. He manages alright under discos reign of incompetence. Semin would hopefully excel despite Shero too,

And why was it so obvious? Because our GM is too small minded to bring in any European players. Michalek had one off year and the dude gets traded for scraps.

Hejduk - Unlikely to happen IMO. He seems like a lifer for Colorado but I would put feeders out there for him.

Umberger - I'm down with him. A little too expensive and could create cap problems down the line but if it were Umberger or nothing, I'm taking Umberger.

Smyth - Eh I don't see a lot left here and he wanted to go back to Edmonton. Not sure he would move.

Bertuzzi - No thanks

Listen man. I just asked you to list what you want Shero to do and all you can say is "sign Semin". Okay so he missed out on one "controversial" but really talented winger. That's all you've got. I'm fine with constructive criticism but all you seem to do is ***** but then don't have any solutions.

I didn't know Gagne could be had for a 4th round pick. I didn't know Ryder was actively being shopped. I'm sure there are dozens of players out there that are on the block that we don't know about. Do you want me to pick random players out there like a lot of people here even though I have no idea if they are even being shopped? What's the point?

It was a cap-dump to go after Parise/Suter, him or Martin. RS made the right choice.

There's nothing I can say that will change some of your minds. Teams could go above the cap in the summer. It seemed a little premature to give away michalek.

Suter came out and said he wanted to remain in the western conference and be close in proximity to Wisconsin. Last time I checked pittsburgh played in the eastern conference and they are plenty of teams closer to Wisconsin. They had no chance at signing him. If Shero thought otherwise he's dumber than I thought.

Gagne was available to Philly for a 4th (plus he was being healthy scratched in LA and is definitely on the downhill of his career). My point is that you spend an awful lot of time criticizing Shero but don't seem to have any idea what you want him to do. I guess what I "want" is for you to either A.) give it a rest because you have said the same thing over and over again or B.) provide potential targets that you would like to see on the Pens.

Of course, this is a message board so if you want to continue to bash Shero for not signing Semin last July then fire away.

I agree with you on Michalek. I really like him and thought he would have been a more valuable trade commodity. We could have waited until later in the summer to move him. That said, I think our D has been fine this year and young guys have gotten opportunities (Despres, Bortuzzo) that wouldn't have happened if we kept Michalek. So I can't be too upset there.

Can you stop whining about Semin. We get it, you think he should have signed him. Every post you make on this forum is *****ing about our wingers (even your name), and half of them complain that we didnt sign Semin. Maybe Shero/DB just didn't want him. Get over it, it's done. Maybe post something constructive or at least whine about something NEW.

KIRK should be especially pleased by a title which harnesses his 'two good wingers each for Sid and Geno' paradigm.
'Pleased' may be the wrong word, but the thread title's meaning is understood in this quarter.

Hejduk will retire an Av, probably after this season. He has had ample opportunities to leave and never has. I think retiring as an Av is important to him. For us, he's the shortest-term solution possible, so not ideal.

Umberger is too expensive for what he provides, which is a bigger Kunitz. Too much term left on his contract.

Smyth is basically Hejduk. Oh he's left Edmonton, but he never wanted to and went back with open arms and now will retire an Oiler. He's pretty much finished as a player, sadly, though.

Bertuzzi is always hurt these days, but even then Holland loves him and he'll likely retire a Wing. He doesn't solve much for us, because he quite literally never stays healthy for long.
