If we were to trade Whitney, the only trade in my opinion that makes sense is to trade Whitney for a roster player that is in a similar situation as Whitney. You will not get fair value for him now. So you will need to look for a player that has a lot of upside but hasn't been able to put it together lately, and maybe a change of scenery would be a good fit for both players.
You guys cant Scratch a guy this many times on a team that does not have the best defense in the league and then turn around and claim he is worth something.
What GM is going to buy that? Putting him on waivers and some GM taking the salary off your hands is doing you favor enough.
Thats why they shouldn't trade him right now, hopefully he can build his value up. Teams are also more desperate around the trade deadline so you're more likely to get a little bit better of a deal if you wait.
Wow indeed. Do you really think Edmonton should continue to trade roster players for draft picks or should they try to improve the team now instead of stocking the cupboards for the future?
Draft picks are a valuable trade asset though.
Say we want to get a defenseman off of a team that's aiming to sell a roster player. Are they more likely to want an impending UFA who's been a healthy scratch a handful of times or a 3rd/4th round draft pick?

True, I wouldn't mind a scenario like that where Tambo turns around and wheels for a player from someone else. We also have two 2nds this year as assets as well. I'd like to think that Whitney is worth more to a team then a 3rd or a 4th but it all depends on said teams current situation.
We have a lot of young players coming up who need to be playing somewhere, I'm worried that we're going to have too many prospects which leads to their development being stunted due to lack of opportunity and contract caps.
If you have watched Whitney at all this season you know by not playing him the team improves immensley...
Without any exageration every bottom pairing that does not include Whitney has looked a lot better. If the coach is serious about winning you can not play a guy and just hope he doesnt $%^& the bed like he has been all this year and all last year.
I don't mind keeping him around for now as a 8th d-man if he's willing to keep trying to improve himself. If he's just going to be a whiner, ship him off for whatever you can get for him.
Ryan Whitney keeping it classy with fans on Twitter.

@EdmontonOilers Should have Whitney go shovel the ramp to the dressing room or something if he has enough time to be insulting fans here.
I don't think these players realize that responding to stuff like that only makes things worse. Honestly if I were a player I don't think I'd even be on twitter and if were I'd hardly ever write anything.
In lieu of his insensitive, uncalled for comment check out what he tweeted just the other day.

Thinking about renting documentary Bully tonight... worth seeing? I never trust pigeon "professional" movie critics reviews
I guess that he didn't learn anything about bullying from watching that movie.

Ya its one thing if you're going to use it like say Jones and give updates, respond to fans questions, and chirp the odd teammate, but you can't be rude to fans no matter what they might have said
Yea, Whitney's a joke. Hope he's gone by the end of the week. Trade him for Futures or bury him in the minors. That's classless.
Guys shouldn't be lipping him off on twitter to begin with. Just because he's a professional hockey player doesn't mean he has to take **** from the fans. Id do the same thing, guy asked to be bashed.

The fan worded it awkwardly but he wasn't bashing him. Whitney completely overreacted.

He should've just pulled a Jim Rome and "blocked" them.
