It's hard to be mad at any one year signing. If it doesn't work, cut ties and that is that.

So what?

So your point is that "If we remove the games where he only got assists, and the two years where he was actually good, then he looks terrible!".

Not buying it.

And if you'll notice, my original point was pointing out someone's point that "Semin has never shown up in the playoffs", a point you and I agree with.

No I made my points very clear. If you choose to ignore them or change them, that's your problem.

What's your point?

In 4 of 8 playoff series, Semin scored at least 5 points. 3 of those, he was at or above PPG.

In 2 playoff series, he was poor. Make it 3 if you want to include the Tampa series where he was injured. Make it 4 if you want to include the series were the Washington offense was stonewalled by Halak.

So 4 where he showed up, and 4 where he did not, if you want to remove all context (but obviously, you don't). Taking one game out of those series', and saying "Because he didn't show up in THIS game, he had a bad series!!" is not valid.

I was responding to a poster who said that Semin has never shown up in the playoffs, which is incorrect. Are you really going to dispute that?

Your question has already been more than answered. Read carefully.

"Semin disappears in the playoffs." Is that correct?

My problem with your analysis is that it ignores the series' where he was successful (either by emphasizing a lack of goal production, or emphasizing the length of time), and the focus on an individual game to de-legitimize the series.

For the third time, I was responding to the person who claimed that Semin has never shown up in the playoffs, which I believe to be incorrect. Do you agree with him?

Now many Canes fans will say that Semin is playing great for them and the reason the Caps got off to a slow start was because they let Semin go. But Ribeiro has been much better than Semin thus far, so that's not a valid point. The reason the Caps got off to a slow start was they had to adjust to Oates system. It had nothing to do with losing Semin, as his replacement has been MUCH better.

Also, I think Brouwer's comments weren't really needed. But with all these former teammates calling Semin out, I don't understand how Canes fans could possibly just say its not true, or trick themselves into believing so because he's now a Hurricane. The fact is those are his former teammates, and they would know him much better than anyone on these boards, so they're probably correct, and you're probably wrong if you disagree with their opinions. Add to that, the fact that most Canes fans probably had the same opinion of Semin that Brouwer had, before Alex signed in Carolina, and its just really hard to understand how Canes fans can just call Brouwer's comments blasphemy.
Could not have said it better myself amen

For what it's worth, the Hurricanes had one notable winger (Skinner) and Semin was the only available player of a similar caliber. They paid a premium for one season so they could ice a playoff-quality top 6 for the first time in several years. Now they are (still) leading the division and are a decent bet to make the playoffs, which will mean it was a good investment compared to spending a couple million less on a Parenteau or Hudler and then not having as competitive a team.

Again, I don't know why you would care about the Hurricanes' payroll decisions. It has nothing to do with anything, other than being yet another excuse to rip on your former player.
I don't care about the Canes payroll decisions, however that does not preclude me from voicing my opinion or comments on a thread on the main board. Canes fans are a tad sensitive today, wonder why?
