San Jose Sharks thieves of day two at 2008 NHL Draft

The San Jose Sharks went into the 2008 NHL Entry Draft under unfavorable circumstances not having a pick until the end of the fourth round at number 117. Statistics show, the deeper you go into drafts, the harder it is to convert prospects into NHL players. The move to acquire Brian Campbell for a cup push made things very hard at the draft table.

After trading up, in the third, fourth, and fifth rounds, taking players the team coveted, General Manager Doug Wilson felt better about what he and his scouting staff brought into the fold. Hindsight is always 20/20, but in retrospect the moves as a whole made on draft day five years ago, have to be considered average.… read more

As always gang, feedback is welcome. I've been really taking your comments to heart (I took this particular article a lot deeper than we were supposed to, but I figured you guys might like it).

I'm presently working on the Spring Top 20--I think David did the last one, and it was really good, but if you have anything you'd like to see in that (I probably can't go toooo outside the box) I'll put it in front of my editor and try and get it in there for you.

I'd love to see some quotes from either Doug Wilson or Tim Burke about the selections at the time of the draft. I know they don't discuss all of the picks and I imagine they'd be hard to find, but it would be great to look at in a retrospective article like this.

Overall, I thought it was pretty good. Especially the stuff on Demers.

Some people should really add this to their memory banks;

Quote:
Only twelve players selected in the 2008 draft have played more games in the NHL than Demers, and all twelve, eight of which were defensemen, were first round picks.
