Sami Salo 2.0

And do we really have to see Andrew Ebbett back on the team?

The Canucks' window of opportunity with this squad has been slammed shut so many times
2011: Accumulation of injuries to key players in the playoffs by the SCF (Kesler, Edler, Ehrhoff, Malhotra, Hamhuis, etc.)
2012: D. Sedin injured, Kesler injured, Malhotra eye injury, etc.
2013: Kesler injured again (he will be back, but he has been away for so long it is imperative that even in this shortened season he needed the games to readjust to game-pace) + ?

Sigh. Trades and free agency will bounce us back into contention. The team isn't doomed this season, but Kesler's rehabilitation was our potential shot at bringing a balanced lineup top to bottom.

I swear this sucks so much.

On the other hand, maybe we get lucky this year and have a healthy Kesler just hitting his form going into the playoffs.
My biggest concern right now is the way our defence has played. I think we have the personnnel on paper but in practice they have played poorly at times. We could also use another bottom 6 center.
Maybe going into the playoffs with lowered expectations will be good for this team. Who knows?

I wouldn't mind them going in as more of an underdog. Something to prove

Un-****ing-believable. If Kesler wasn't considered injury prone before, he certainly is now. And they want Ebbett back?!

What's with all the negativity in here folks? Even without Kesler for 8 weeks you think this team is going to miss the playoffs? Come on now... I thought regular season didn't matter anymore.

Regular season only doesn't matter when we are doing well

Flying under the radar into the post-season would a nice change.

As for Kesler returning and performing well: it's a possibility, but not something the team should depend upon happening.

I think this team has depended on him playing well and he hasn't since the cup run.

If he played three games with this broken foot, I don't think he'll be out 6 weeks.

I'm calling 3-4.

The conspiracy theorist in me wants to say that his foot is fine and they're pulling him from the line-up to continue rehabbing as he wasn't playing as well as he could. *shifty eyes*

Just like Malholta's situation was very convenient.

I like this concept too.

In the same vein, basically if Chicago doesn't make the SCFs this year they'd be huge chokers based off HF logic too !

We need to either trade for a 2nd line center and have Kesler be the 3rd line guy / penalty kill guy.... Or stop playing him on the darned PK and trade for a shut down center. As honestly Lappiere and Schroeder are not great defensively.

In the last two weeks I have strained my groin and got a stress fracture on my foot then within a couple says a canuck player has gone down with the same injury. Hopefully this trend will not continue.

Well, this is just ****ing great.

I guess this explains Kesler's lack of hustle lately.

I'm getting seriously pissed off with the medical staff this team employs. He plays for 3 games on a broken foot and nobody notices? Reminding me of Hodgson's back issues. We got Nick Riviera back there or something? Jesus H Christ. It's not as if the team's hurting for coin. Get some damn professionals on the staff FFS.

Some of you need a break from sports. Hope Kesler is back soon, but I have to say, the thought of trading him is in the back of my mind, and he's my favourite player. Useless when you're on IR.

Kesler update: #Canucks centre actually broke his right foot in first game back on Feb. 15 against Dallas, not Feb. 21 in Dallas.
That means Kesler played that Dallas game plus 6 other games before sitting out?!

Stress fractures are tiny. And if his foot was swollen you wouldn't be able to see it on an xray.

Well there is good news in this.

1. Kesler looked great then his game fell in hole. Hopefully this injury is all that was wrong, and a few weeks more rehab won't hurt him.

2. Might force Gillis to bring in some top real 6 talent.
