Nick Schultz maybe has the value of a 3rd rounder right now. He doesn't bring much to the table and I doubt the Flyers are looking for a draft pick right now. They aren't a rebuilding team. Nick Schultz is a throw in, not something that you focus a trade around.

Would you accept a UFA #5 d-man and a 1st round draft pick for one of the Yak/Eberle/RNH/Hall? Because that is likely the level that the Flyers value him.

I agree. And I don't want the Oilers to give up their 1st for Couturier. Maybe Petry would interest them? I would do Petry + for Couturier, especially if they could do something like Hemsky for Mike Green.

You have to keep Schultz you need some veterans on the back end they just acquired him a year ago and obviously think highly of him giving him an "A"

Petry (who I still like) would be a more ideal move if that's what it takes to get it done, I think there still needs to be another piece.

If Petry is expendable does that mean some of the troops in OKC could be ready? Fedun or Marincin how have they faired?

A top 10 pick this year could potentially get you a better Center then Couts and i disagree on your value of nick shultz if we are out by the trade deadline i bet you see a late first for a shultz rental. Teams pay big for decent D at the deadline and the injury disease caused by the shortened season adds to that but i agree with your view that he wouldnt get couts idk then. petry and a first is to high petry + what?

Neither IMO are ready. If management is moving Petry there has to be another move already lined up for a top 4 Dman.

For funsies

Corey Perry
Eric Belanger

Ales Hemsky
Danny Briere
Magnus Paajarvi/Teemu Hartikainen

Sean Couturier
Matt Beleskey

Flyers get rid of some cap and bring in a guy they will be targeting. Ducks are gonna lose Perry so they will trade him. Gain a replacement in Hemsky and a #2 center in Briere, plus Paajarvi. Oilers add the big center and added grit needed.

EDIT -
Flyers give Briere, Couturier - get Perry, Belanger
Oilers give Hemsky, Paajarvi, Belanger - get Couturier, Beleskey
Ducks give Perry, Beleskey - get Hemsky, Briere, Paajarvi/Hartikainen

Oilers and probably the ducks take this and run. flyers giving up quite a bit for Perry and a faceoff specialist.

If all it takes to get Couturier out of Philly is Petry and a 1st they should get that deal done. I don't mind Petry but at best he's a 2nd pairing d man. You trade for Couturier and suddenly out center depth is looking extremely good. RNH, Gagner, Couturier, Belanger as our 4 centers next season woud make me very happy. On top of that after giving up the pick I'd expect Tambo to want to make a push for the playoffs and go out and get JML's or Franson from Toronto for Potter and a prospect like Gernat.

I do think that people do over value Court a bit too much. As if he would be worth one of the FAB 5.

Cant we make it smoth if we trade S.Gagner to philly, we include S.Gagne in that trade package so the sammys can keep wearing their jerseys, only remove the R(or coloured ducktape).

Shiney new toys? Our first should absolutely be on the table for the right player or package. Sooner rather than later the Oil are going to need to trade some picks/prospects in order to round out the roster.

Only if the piece coming back makes us significantly better. Couturier does not make us significantly better, not this season. Not for awhile if ever. If we include our 1st it needs to be in a deal for a star or a few considerable pieces that will hopefully make us playoff bound.

IMO Couturier is a player that our 1st should be in play for. To quote Soli(IIRC)+Obiwan he is the droid we are looking for.

Well he also plays LW, put him on the 2nd line with Gagner and Hemsky. Our forwards look like this:

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Couturier-Gagner-Hemsky
Smyth-Horcoff-Jones
Petrell-Belanger-Yakupov

Roster also has depth incase of injury and has another option for the PP, and the PK.

And who is subtracted to get him. Couturier when on pk averages about 70 % efficency when he is on ice in fact he has been on 11of 15 pp goals against in philly this year , considering Fedetenko has been on for 7 and more pk time this year shows Couturier would not help our 4th overall, so how about pp well he is on for over 2 min a game and has 3 pp points all assists not helping us here. Face offs 42 per nope not there. Even strength well he does have 4 points maybe a litte help there but his line has been on for 14 goals against even strength. He would help down the road a few years he is not helping this team now. And during playoffs last year Phillys pk was 55 % when he was killing pks and the team was 72 % during playoffs so about 85% when he was not out there. Very dominant

Holmgren wouldn't move Couturier for Weber...we're not getting him.

Probably true unfortunately.

In addition St. Louis and Winnipeg have both been taking in Philly games lately. I hate to say it but both those teams have better young D to offer up in a trade than Petry/Whitney.

Was it not NSH that wouldn't move Weber for any package that Holmgren put together. Which is why he did the poison pill offer sheet.
