This has been brewing for awhile and I imagine it will get ugly shortly
From what I gather, Dave Lombardo left the band for ten years and came back in 2002. While he was away slayer got smart with their business and set it up that Tom Araya, Jeff Hanneman, and Kerry King who have all been in the band since 1981 (Lombdardi was the original drummer but left in 86 for a bit and then left in 92 to come back in 2002) set it up that Lombardi was not a full member of the band and not entitled to the management fees (the band more or less manages themselves with the help of a few lawyers) and because they do not sell millions and millions of CD they got creative with how they structured the band to make sure they get to retain more money and pay less to the collective governments around the world (all bands who spend time on the road do this and it is nothing new)--But because Lomdardi was gone for ten years, the rest of the band have more or less (according to previous reports) put him on short term contracts and a pay as he plays contract and obviously they this is for a reason

In my opinion Lombardo is and was a good but not an amazing drummer. If we're going by influence he was way up there though. He was one of the first to coalesce double-bass drumming. And he was tasteful--he plays for the song not himself. One of my favorites.
Didn't know about all that legal stuff, sucks though Lombardo was a stud drummer. Saw Slayer at Mayhem Fest, Tom's voice isn't the best anymore but music wise they still kick ass. Wonder who replaces Dave in the long term.
