I enjoy seeing the acts on the smaller stages but if I'm paying to go to a concert I better like the headliner.

I think an inbetween would be best. 5 days, on a long weekend, with 3 full days.
It can be, but then again I don't mind seeing shows 10 out of 11 nights (the Tuesday is the off-day this year). The lack of a venue with a campsite definitely limits the ability to have a three- or four-day event. The other thing to consider is that shorter events tend to be more expensive since there are fewer days for the festival to make any revenue.

The multi-day passes are discounted at a special price. It's like buying in bulk - the more you buy, the less the average cost. Take buying a full festival pass - a person is playing $20 a day if one buys the $199 early bird pass.

Finally, individual day passes tend to be more expensive - anywhere from $30 to $100, with prime acts and weekends costing more (weekends because it's access to 11 hours of music).

If you're buying the full festival pass, it's hard to complain with an average cost of $20 to go to a festival and see multiple acts. A ticket to see Rush probably would cost a person at least $50 to $75 and that's for the cheap seats.

To see Belle & Sebastian in Montreal during Jazzfest would cost about $60 per person. I would more than gladly pay that, but since I'll buy the full festival passport and likely will attend all 10 days, I'm only paying $20. I can't really complain.

People also need to remember that this is the initial lineup. There are plenty of more acts to come. Granted, there's only one headliner remaining, but still plenty of time slots to fill.

Osheaga is a full day commitment.

Bluefest is definitely more relaxed and something you can drop by after work if need be. A lot less people and far easier access.

I was desperate to see Rush again at bluesfest, and then I was able to get tickets to see them in Hamilton two days earlier!! Not sure if I'll be back by the 8th to see them again.

No Metric this year?

Bjork should be fantastic! I saw her after her second or third solo album (Goldie was opening, drum&bass was all the hype) a long time ago, and I imagine her more recent shows will be much more spectacular (and weird).

Good point. Hadn't noticed. That's unusual.

I'm sad I won't be back in Ottawa for Bluesfest. Lineup might not be the best ever, but it's still a good time.

I'm back in town for the last week of July + the first two weeks of August. Anyone know if there are any can't miss shows in that timeframe?

The Rockfest in Montebello also revealed one band that will play there this year: Rancid.

This year, it'll have 5 stages and 150 bands over 2 days. Should be interesting to see how they do it. Last year's lineup was better than Heavy MTL, IMO, and a third of the price.

That is awesome!

Also, Rockfest will be announcing a metal band next week.

Still holding out hope that one of Alabama Shakes or Imagine Dragons perform, certainly a stretch but those would be the two new bands i am most interested in at the moment!

I was hoping the Alabama Shakes, Jim James, Xavier Rudd, Michael Franti, Foxygen, Japandroids, The Besnard Lakes, and quite a few other bands would have been announced, but there's still plenty of time.

Rockfest was not even close to the show heavy mtl had. I usually go to bluesfest, rockfest and heavy mtl every year and heavy mtl is by far the best of the three every year.

If you like that type of music played at Heavy MTL.. Don't get me wrong, I saw Avenged there a few years ago and it was great. But, I guarantee you poll random people and the great majority will say Bluesfest is better since it basically has all types of music other than Metal...

So those 3 day and 5 day passes have to be purchased online? Can we also buy in person at Gate 1?

Edit: I guess I should specify Gate 1 at SBP... (to purchase before the festival)

I'm a musician and used to be in-the-know for bands

Looking at all the band names being thrown around I think I can safely say that this might be one of the first times in my life I actually feel old (just turned 29)!

Don't know if you can buy passes at the Bank, but probably could. You can definitely buy day passes right at the festival gate.

I'm stoked that they were able to book Tommy Trash. Been wanting to see him for a little while. If you're an EDM fan, you won't want to miss it.

Imagine Dragons doesn't have any tours booked in July except for July 19th...except it's in Norway.

It'd be amazing if they came!!!

Same with Alabama Shakes!!
