That's one area where Brown could probably improve the most.

I'm pretty sure we can all agree on one thing: Our style of play and our system is not designed for EVERYONE. You have to have a specific trait and playing style in order to be successful with the Kings.

Great examples are: Purcell and Moulson. These two probably would not have been that good if they continued their careers with the Kings. I know they got Stamkos and Tavares centering them but even with Kopi or Richards, I doubt these two will meet our expectations.

Other notable players: Gagne, Simmonds, Lotki, Hickey, etc.

I'm just happy to see these guys succeed. Heck, if you threw Kopi to the Devils or the Rangers, he could easily get 100+ pts every season.

Add to it Dean's commitment to a total re-build after that season and trading Lubo was the best option. I don't think there was anything malicious about it. Lubo put himself in a bad position with his poor play.
DL was rebuilding from the moment he got to LA.

I agree with you general, but I think Moulson would have done great in the current system DS employs. I don't blame us for getting rid of him, but he'd fit in really well right now if we brought him back.

Simmonds as well. He did fine while here and was only 22 when we traded him. His growth in Philly can be explained by his growth as a player as much as by his increased playing time.

Hickey, well I'll just leave that can of worms along, but I've already amde it clear how I feel on that matter around these boards.

Yes and No

Those first two years were spent "changing the culture" while fulfilling Leiweke's wishes of trying to stay competitive.

It all worked out though, in the end

His directive from management when he first arrived was to build a contender while remaining competitive. That is why he pursued Drury and Chara when he first arrived. After the 2nd season he convinced AEG that signing UFAs was not the way to go and that a build through the draft and trades would be the only way.

Did the Kings try even one cross-ice pass through a seam during any of their 5-on-3 PP time last night? You even complete one of those and the chances of scoring a goal go up dramatically.

No..... And they also stayed still like their feet were glued to the ice.

That may be what is said, but I'll wager the reality is far different. If we were trying to remain competitive, we wouldn't have traded Demitra for a 1st and kid who spent the first half of the season on the farm, nor Belanger and Gleason for a college kid and a salary cap dump.

Actions speak loader than words. Adding guys like Chara, Drury, etc. are easy moves, in a rebuild or not, because all they cost you is cap space, not any assets towards a rebuild. We continued going after UFA's even after we did enter the rebuild. Every year we were in the running for one of the biggest UFA's, this message board is littered with threads about it, from Chara all the way to Brad Richards.

That was the most irritating thing about the 5-3's. If it gets through, odds are you are going to score. If it doesn't, the other team knows you are looking at it and cheat down low leaving more open space in the slot.
