Ovechkin: would it work in Montreal?

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Eklun...Needed/1/49624

I know it's Eklund and he is just specualting but there is a very real possibility AO could be traded at some point.

Would MB be willing to take the package...his contract/cap hit, the risk of him never returning to the form of 2-3 or 5 years ago and the possible waves he could create...plus the cost to acquire as I'm sure even with his struggles, SOMEBODY would pay to get him(NYR? Toronto? Calgary?).

I say no.

The only way I even consider taking on that deal is if WSH retains a good chunk of it. Ovechkin at a 6 M cap hit would be far more attractive.

Doesn't seem at all like the kind of player MT would want on his squad.

No thanks. The worst prima donna in the game today.

I would take Ovi on my team but it depends on what we would be giving up.

Bringin Ovi on to the squad would be a complete reversal of the "Team First" philosophy that has been instilled on the guys since the beginning of the season.

I'm one of the minority here in that I actually like Ovi and hope he does well....just not on the Montreal Canadiens.

I don't see it. Washington won't retain cap space, and that's cap space that we will need in the near future; raises to Subban, Galchenyuk, etc. are more important than getting AO.

Hell no, and Ovechkin is pretty much the perfect exemple of what Bergevin doesn't want on his team.

Ovechkin is a game changer. Absolutely I'd bring him in.

However, the Caps would probably want either Subban or Tinordi and I doubt I'd want to part with them.

If you could get Ovechkin without giving up Price, Subban, Tinordi, Galchenyuk, Gallagher, Markov or Plekanec? Yes I would do it. Yes I would give up Pacioretty if it meant Washington keeping $2M of Ovechkin's cap.

When 32 goals/65 points is your low point? You're worth it. I bet Ovechkin would thrive in Montreal. It's a perfect match that will never happen, similar to Federov wearing the CH.

Dude. Even if it's Tinordi, you get slightly reduced Caphit Ovechkin if your coach tells him he believes he can turn him around.

You can use the spare cap hit to sign a vet D-man who can be a true physical presence that should have been replaced by him. Tinordi is great, but there's is hardly anything unique about him.

I really like Tinordi but you're right. Plus I'm sure Tinordi would love to play for his dad's old team.

If you can get Ovechkin and it doesn't cost your entire identity, you get Ovechkin. Imagine Washington in 2009-2010 with Price today in net.

Ovechkin can play great, and he could score 50 goals a year every year.

But I feel like our current team thrives on having a good team spirit and sadly, I think Ovechkin is a professional "team spirit murderer"...

Hence why I would ask my coaching team first if they believe they can turn him around and get him to buy into our system and have fun with us.

Gallagher-Desharnais-Ovechkin would tear this league.

He's very good friends with Markov. If he's coming into Montreal, he'll likely follow Markov's lead.

I think with the team's current attack style, Ovechkin would fit perfectly.

No.

No, no, no.

Ovechkin, at the moment, would not fit our playstyle. Buying into our system would be nothing short of a complete reform of the man.

Most of you don't want him for all the wrong reasons. The real reason to not go after him, is that we will have to mortgage our future. Something the habs cannot afford right now.

But not wanting him because he's paid too much? or because of perceived lack of team spirit?

Yes. Ovechkin is a gamebreaker and would feed from the crowd at the Bell Center. For those saying no, did you think it was a good thing chasing away Chelios from Montréal ?

thats part of my concern too, 3 different coaches tried to reform Ovechkin since that ugly defeat against the habs (or halak alone) in the playoffs, and none of them was able to, actually they all made it worst and worst... I'd love to believe he could change but I just can't
