Cooke's a disgrace. Won't fight anybody worth a damn, and tries to purposefully injure people.

I don't think he fits well for what we needed. Yes, we needed to get tougher, but not on the fourth line. We needed a tough top-9 player.

Some speculation on the 'Nucks board that they waived Volpatti to clear room for Pinizzotto. If that's the truth, then we're screwed. I love Pinner, but he's an AHL grinder at best. Guy had trouble staying in the Hershey line-up a couple years ago, and looks like his skates are made from sandpaper. Not to mention he spent all of last year injured.

I like a healthy dose of crazy, but guys like Carcillo end up costing you as many penalties (and games) as they draw. I specifically picked both him and Bradley because of the situation in that 8-2 game a few years ago. Bradley lays a clean (but hard) check on Carcillo, Danny retaliates with a cross-check from behind and then sucker punches Brads. Result? 9-minute powerplay for Washington. That's the kind of crazy that sets your own team back.

As for Cooke, there's a difference between crazy and malicious. **** guys like Cooke, Downie, etc.

I'd like to see world class leader Troy Brouwer grow a pair and drop the mitts when the **** hits the fan.

Another guy I'd love...Downie. He can really play too!

You must have despised having Dale Hunter on our team b/c there was no one in the universe more malicious than him! He did far worse things that the Turgeon cheapshot.

George likes his retreads, what da ya think, send Crabb back to the Leafs for Steckel. Steckel at least brings something of value to the Caps, his face off ability. Steckel's salary is 1.1 and he'll be a UFA.

Just need to work on Steckel's speed, from the dot to the bench.

Plus having Steckel back in a Cap jersey would really go over well in western Pa..

I'll take Volpatti - Beagle - Hendricks over Hendricks - Beagle - Crabb. Hopefully his hitting rubs off, maybe even on Crabb.

The old-school NHL was different than today's. That part of the game has been phased out over time. Refs call it differently, you end up getting suspended for less(and longer), and there's not the same culture surrounding those kind of hits. Having a guy like that in the old Patrick division was pretty much essential. Today? Not so much.

True enough but one step at a time. We need toughness ANYWHERE we can get it right now.

Last I checked Cooke is still in the league and the Flyers have a guy like Ronaldo. That kind of player can still be effective but just can't go overboard like they used to be able to.

They'll just promote Hendricks to the third line. Problem solved.

That's about as solid a fit as Chimera on the top line.

What a ****** bunch of lefty wingers.

Cooke is still in the NHL, but is the exception rather than the rule. Rinaldo isn't even remotely the same class as Cooke. He's a pest, but he doesn't go out there with the intent to injure. And he's at least willing to drop the mitts and answer for what he's done (unlike Cooke).

Don't worry, Brooks Laich will come back and save the day.

I'd take either kind of player and the more the better. We have very little "jam" in the lineup right now and beggars can't be choosers.

I hope Tom Wilson has a nasty edge to his game. He'd help.

We have much bigger problems than the lack of "jam" on this roster. Like the lack of talent on the left side of the offense and defense. And the lack of consistent goaltending. And the lack of consistent effort. Adding more grinders is not going to help that.

This guy has to be smart too considering he went to Brown. Maybe he can teach the dumb ***** in the locker room a thing or two.

Oh well, at least they have Johansson, who is definitely a top 6 player and is a natural wing.

Before you know it, we'll be talking about how Volpatti adds some 'jam' to the top 6. He is a LW after all.

I like this pickup. Maybe Crabb can watch the game for a change.

True we could use some more talent, but do you realistically believe we'll get those type players this season?

And of course, "Rinaldo" and "effective" don't belong in the same sentence. He's a liability in every sense of the word.

He'd first have to scroll through his list and determine if he has those guys' backs or not.

I think it's clear the softness issue stems from McPhee's mis-construction of the roster. If he had signed more guys Brouwer found worth backing up, things would look a lot different.
