Who is "Mustache Boy"?

It looks like "Mustache Boy" for January AND February is:
Matt Niskanen
The Penguins hold a shootout competition every month, with the losing skater tasked with growing a mustache for the remaining weeks.
http://triblive.com/sports/penguins/...#axzz2IOJBAPaf

PLAYER - MONTH
Matt Niskanen - January/February
Matt Cooke - March
Dustin Jeffrey - April

Niskanen needs to do better at growing that thing above his lip.

Let's hope he gets back in the lineup soon.

Am I the only one who thinks this tradition needs to die? It's silly, not that amusing and worst of all, just unbecoming for a pro team that's a Cup contender.

It was one thing when they were a young, fun-loving team that just brought home a Cup. Then, you could tolerate it. But that was over 3 years ago. These guys, paid millions, need to be serious, and realize that fans shell out good money (to pay their huge salaries) and we expect better than the dismal playoff failures of the past 3 years. Cut the frat house crap and the country club crap.

Have fun by scoring goals, and winning. Getting out of the first round would be fun.

Maybe Bylsma needs to crack a whip on these guys. Maybe then they could "get to their game" more consistently (and not just against bad teams), and not take 13 undisciplined penalties in a row.

Or maybe DB should just wear an ugly sweater behind the bench and grow a stupid goatee, cuz that is just soooo funny.

Nisky is back! Maybe if he plays well, the coaches will let him shave.

The whole "Mustache Boy" thing is a microcosm of Dan Bylsma's coaching tendencies.

It's something that was cool at first.. but now it's totally hackneyed and overdone. It got old really fast and is no longer amusing/entertaining. It's just awkward and not cool.

Given his unwillingness to make changes or keep things fresh, I expect him to keep this lame gag going as long as he is HC.

As long as the players like it who gives a rip what we think... just a way to keep things fun / loose. Plus it's embarrassing for the mustache boy, which the other players surely enjoy. I wish my old beer league had a mustache boy competition.

But that's just it. It's a ritual befitting of a beer league.

Lots of teams do mustache boy/juice boy and the players seem to enjoy it. Is this what we're complaining about now?

It's reached this level. I thought I'd seen it all on HFBoards.

Yeah, really. I could understand complaining if it were purely a gimmick, but the ability to get that extra point out of a shootout could be the difference between 8th and 9th. These competitions a) provide incentive for players to continuously improve their shootout skills, and b) give coaches a chance to get a feel for what players should be in their initial shootout lineup.

You're trying to be miserable if something as harmless as mustache boy bothers you.

Place your bets on mustache boy for April. We have some new players now, could it end up being one of them?

After Cooke's performance today, I think he should be exempt, but we should find out soon who it will be.

Mustache boy actually serves a purpose: keeping both our skaters and our goalies sharp for shoot out situations. And judging by clips from practices the players enjoy it, so beyond that I don't see what the issue is.

I think it's Jeffrey. At least, the ROOT Sports twitter said it was.

Not too bad.

Have we considered that maybe ... just maybe, the mustaches are working?

Do not question this man.

Or his mustache.
