Parise Watch 2.0? Still missing that top defenseman to go with Perry to the same team.

I wouldn't mind if we some how acquire another first round draft pick (preferably from trading Briere) we use it at the draft to get his rights. Would we be able to sign him for 8 years then? Thinking we would. Make him not have to go to free agency, and sign him big time. Giroux-Perry would be amazing for 8 years... although I know some don't feel the same way.

It would be surprising I think if Homer would include Couts and Schenn in a trade proposal. He has been reluctant to move them at any price it seems.

That would mean one of Read/Voracek/Simmonds would be in the trade if we do try to go that route. Simmonds I feel we absolutely need to keep. Hossa and Kovy deals are good value for him. He might not warrant the return a lot will speculate.

He literally said what every player says when asked about being traded. Does anyone have the quotes from Gagne before he was traded when rumors were circulating around him? Also it's maybe not probable, but not unrealistic. There seems to be teams interested in him too. Bruins and Blues have already inquired about him, which means Homer is listening.

Gagne was in the same situation and finally agreed to waive. Briere might not want to go, but if Homer can convince him that there's not future here - i.e. he'll be bought out on amnesty if the Flyers don't make the playoffs, he might agree to go. I'm torn. I have to respect the scoring he does, but he's SO bad in our zone. If he could cover his point as well as the average houseleague peewee, he'd be worth keeping.

I don't think we need Perry, if he continues playing like he is, Voracek is a great winger for Giroux, and he's way cheaper. Affording Perry would be hard with the cap going down. Our forward core is fine with Giroux, Voracek, Hartnell, Simmonds, Schenn, Couturier, Read... even Gagne (I think we will resign him if he stays healthy, he really seems to be motivated by Philly). We don't need another top 6 player imo. What we need to focus on is a top pairing defenseman, because Kimmo will retire soon, and drafting. If we get 2 firsts, keep them.

That said, I don't like the idea of trading Briere unless we can get a really good return, we can say whatever we want about his salary, he's needed. He's a great leader and he's really devoted to the team. He helped Giroux a lot in his development and by living with him, and he's doing the same with Couturier now. Also, he plays his best hockey in key games. You win cups with players like Briere, even if he's not that good defensively. (But he's not as bad as some here pretend IMO)

I read that and thought it said Flyers. Can't say I'm not disappointed. I'd give up a couple picks for him.

I think its more since the AAV is 6.5 million. Might be a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd don't quote me on that though.
Edit: I is dumb and can't read. Its 5 million for the AAV. so its a 1st and a 3rd if I'm using the correct numbers.

I'm really surprised Calgary would involve their 1st rounder in any sort of way. They are a lottery team right now. Strange move. Also shows they are trying to win lol

Compensation is 1st and a 3rd but that's not the bad part.

Since his salary in year 2 is 6.5m, they'd have to give him a qualifying offer of 6.5m in 2 years.

That means he's going to have very little trade value in the future

I don't think Calgary signed him to an offer sheet to trade him away down the line.

Obviously.

Look at it from Colorado's view.

He's not worth the 6.5m and any team that gets him is going to have to offer that to him to not lose their RFA rights when FA rolls around unless they sign him to a deal before that

80% they don't match

20% chance they say they wont be bullied by big market teams

I'd be cool giving up 1/3 for ROR. Maybe not if I am Calgary because I think they are going to be a lottery team. Then again, with ROR I could see them making a push for the playoffs. Anything more than the 1st and 3rd is probably an overpayment.

The poison pill is definitely the 6.5m qualifying offer in 2014

If July rolls around and he hasn't agreed to a deal or been extended the qualifying offer, he becomes a UFA.

I wonder why. Its not like they weren't trying to get a true franchise defenseman in his prime for four first round picks.
But yeh this is pretty good for Calgary as long as they don't continue to suck.

Agreed. That situation was the most "pins and needles" type of situation than any other sporting related event.

For their sake I hope not, waiting on the Preds made me feel like Roger Maris during the home run chase.

Well we no longer have our third available right now thanks to Gagne deal.
