Looking at our draft, Poile isn't just bad at drafting offense, he's down right horrible.
I would say that all depends on how Wilson, Smith, and Bourque pan out in the next couple of years.. If they all fizzle and never become legit scorers, then you may have a point.... but right now it looks like Poile may have drafted the replacements for Fisher, Legwand and Erat

Not sure that's completely fair; Hartnell should be here except for the Liarpold dispersal and Radulov should be, too, unless you're gonna' argue we should have known he'd be a complete whack-job? But, yes, we probably need to find an Arnott/Dumont type signing to give us a little punch for the next few years, assuming we can't get that elite scorer to come.
Seems to me Smith has to be our #1C, and if Willy makes it great, otherwise Watson has to get up here no later than start of next season and we see what we got.
With the Avs signing ROR their fans seem to think they have to deal a C - don't suppose Statsny would look bad in Pred gold in some kinda' deal for Ellis+.

They do need a D-man badly, but it may be a premium to keep him in the west.

Gaustad would be nice to give them for cap reasons. Ellis+Gaustad+(?)
If we're going to trade for stastny and his contract backstrom is a better fit nd cheaper.
Backstrom would be awesome, but IMO they'd trade Ovechkin before Backstrom. They should be building around him.
Stastny is such a disappointment. The 2006-2010 version of Stastny would give us that #1 scoring center we've all wanted and would set us up for years. The 2011-present version of Stastny is only a small upgrade over what we have. The gamble could pay off big time, but is probably not one we should make.

Too much baggage + his contract is an albatross if he's not scoring, if they want to trade someone I think it'll be Backstrom
OV was the primary reason for there coaching change there last season. He is down this year and was less than a point of a game last year. They may be stuck with his contract due to his primodonna attitude.
Stastny makes a lot of money for basically being an upgraded version of Legwand and Fisher.
I think we can do better.
They can eat salary and/or we can include Gaustad in the deal to help. And Statsny is miles about Legwand and Fisher. Miles.
Backstrom and Ovi aren't getting traded. And if they were, Washington already has Alzner, Carlson, and Green, so I would assume they would want a young forward as the centerpiece. So Wilson+. Which defeats the whole point.
Colorado desperately needs defense, which is why Stastny makes sense to me. Not perfect by any means, but a perfect top 6 center wouldn't be on the trade block.
The issue with Stastny is salay next year sign him Josi and Horni and you have about 5 mil left to sign 6 players for next year. Theres no way there going to take on a salary over 3 mil with the roster the way it is for next year.
