Can we buy him out and resign him to a more reasonnable caphit? I know you cant for normal buyouts but I dont see why not with amnesty. Maybe hed go for that if it meant staying around for a few more years?

Sorry if this was answered already.

Briere might prefer that, unless his buyout meant he took a salary cut of millions. Someone else mentioned he'll lose a quarter of remaining salary in a team buyout.
That might be our biggest hope in getting a useful peice out of losing Briere.

He will get 2/3 of 5 mil (his remaining salary). I think he can find a way to get more than 1.7m over 2 years.

But why not get the 1.7+ for 2yrs plus whatever the 2/3rds of 5 mil is.

Maybe thats what I'm saying? By being bought out, he gets 3.3 million (over 2 yrs). He loses 1.7m over that time.

I'm saying I find it preetttty hard to believe that he won't get more than .85 m per year as an UFA over the next two years (to cover what he's lost).

He could sign with a "crappy desperate" team, for probably 4m/yr for 3 years or so...if he so chooses. By him going to UFA, he gets his choice of 29 teams, how much money he gets, how long he wants to play there, ect.

There isn't much downside, assuming he can make 1.7 over two years. Its far better than a trade for him.

30/30 teams would pay him .85 per year for 2 years....

I believe that is what he is saying. 2/3 of 5 million is 3.33333333333. He's saying he can make up the salary he loses from being bought out in F/A and then some. Which is 1.7.

Which is our third (original picks are a requirement in RFA compensation). But now our third round pick is already "tied up" in another deal.

Similar to if we had RFAed a player, those picks can't be used in another offersheet while the first is pending resolution.

Oh, I must have misunderstood. 2yrs at 1.7mil equals approximately 3.33 so only one yr at 1.7mil would be required to make up the salary he loses from being bought out. What he said was 1.7mil over 2yrs not per yr which is why I misunderstood

Yea, I don't think its a big deal haha. Anyway I think all this talk is pointless, Danny B isn't being traded or bought out.

I doubt that will happen now that Bryz is playing well... that's a lot of money to buy someone out...

Currently 33rd in SV%

Saying that he's playing well is no longer true. He started hot and has been mediocre ever since

I think it is pretty clear that Leighton won't be back. I thought he had a chance to serve as a backup and was painfully wrong. It's time to put him in the rear-view mirror. I agree he may go bargain basement on the goalie, it just won't be Leighton.

I just hope it's a guy who can come in win some games here and there. A guy like Montoya is who I would want.

There are some options out there for backup who would be better than what we have. It is the lack of a starting goalie to replace Bryz if he were bought out. Nicklas (Niklas?) Backstrom is out there, but there is no guarantee he'd sign here. After that it is guys who are between the ages of 38-40 who may be ok for a year, two max. You have a guy like Mike Smith who is also UFA (but he's playing in Phoenix which is where people say Bryz had his numbers inflated so it depends on how you feel about that). After that it is slim pickens unless I am forgetting someone.

If they buy him out after next season, it will cost them $17.5m on a Bryz buyout. In comparison, the Sixers bought out Elton Brand for $18m. Money isn't a factor.

Ok maybe it's crazy....

Guys do you think the Vancouver Canuck could want Dany Briere ?

Briere for Roberto Luongo and the Flyers byout Bryzgalov at the end of the season. I cannot trusting Bryzgalov and to me Luongo remain a top goalie in the league.

Luongo saving% : .916 16th
GAA : 2.11 10th

Okay i'm ready to see you making fun on me with that one. But why not ??

Jody Shelly and a 3rd for Paajarvi and Ladislav Smid

Oilers have to add. Shelley's too valuable to this team.

Do the Oilers have any bad-decent prospects that they could add. This looks a little light to me.

You assume we can trade briere. even if we do this, luongos deal is worse than bryz's. I'm not dumping bryz bc of his play...his deal is going to be terrible in 3 years.

There are quite a few young good goalies who can be had if need be. The panic and hysteria of the unknown is out of control here...
