I don't think it's that extreme. He was willing to take the risk on a 21 year old 55 point center that may or may not improve.

Glad that the Avalanche matched. The Flames just dodged a bullet.

He once traded a first round pick for Shane O'Brien, it's always available.

Why? You really think GMs are going to be willing to burn bridges like this?

I would laugh if Sherman turns around and deals Stastny for it right now....
Not gonna happen but I certainly would laugh at both Sherman and Feaster. Stupid minds think alike..

Ugh. This is NOT what I wanted to happen. I'm so pissed at Calgary right now. Ugh.

And the Avalanche will pay their maverick top scorer from last season a hell lot of money this year via bonus and even more next season.

Why did they have waited that long if they are willing to pay that???

Oh well... Worth a try. Still respect Feaster for trying to add young talent with upside by methods other than rolling over and dying on purpose.

You may resume writing your "(Name of player) is a bust" posts so you can plug whoever Calgary's first-rounder turns out to be's name into them in June.

Probably because they didn't want to. Being willing to do something doesn't imply you're actively seeking to do it.

So 5 million seems like abou 1.5 million to much at this stage of his career but since its only 2 years that wont hurt...So will he still be a RFA after this is up? Surprised the Flames were willing to risk the 1st and the 3rd more then anything for 2 years of ROR when they should be rebuilding.

Not as dumb as the Avs GM though.

Could have payed the dude from the get go and save all the drama but noooooo.

Had to go through this drawn out process. All of their RFA's will holdout until they get paid what they think they're worth.

Sets a terrible precedent.

So is Greg Sherman (More like "Sure, man. I'll sign this ludicrous offer sheet instead of taking two lottery picks")

Well that didn't take long...

If they were so quick to pull the trigger when their backs were to the wall, why didn't they bend a little more in negotiations and not get stuck staring 6.5M in the face in a year?

Kind of strange that they didn't just offer him that money in the first place. But good for them?

If they hadn't matched this quickly, they wouldn't be able to trade him before next year, and would be on the hook for 6.5 million QO.

The relationship between O'Reilly and the Avs was pretty toxic, would be amusing if he decided to sit out.
