When they're high picks in a draft that has several top prospects who will be better; yeah, it was.

Still gotta give credit to Feaster here, he forced a rival team into a deal they didnt want.

Umm based on what? Unless Flames get a top 3 pick you're wrong.

Glad that the Avalanche matched. The Flames just dodged a bullet.

Why? Thats terrible bargaining. Calgary forced our hands, we clearly didn't think the flames were that bad so they keep ROR. Its not ideal, but ...

Surprised they matched. I would've taken the pick, and hoped that Calgary struggled and finished near the bottom.

It's still dodging a bullet. It's just hard to imagine how they managed it.

i know one team that's going to be intensely interested in the NHL schedule release next year.

for reference, in 2010 the olympics closed on the 28th and the trade deadline was on march 3rd.

sochi closing ceremonies is on feb 23rd 2014.

Will be interesting to see how ROR is received in the locker room. I know if I was his teammate I'd be furious at him, clearly values money over his team.

What gave the Flames up? They likely aren't even in the same division with the Avs next season.

Very good point. Feb. 28 might be in time for next year's deadline. I think last year it was the 26th or 27th.

I don't want him. Pull up the trade offers for him an year from now. I'll take our chances with Stastny re-signing.

Avs didn't negotiate the deal, that's how they can justify it to their players. If they negotiated it, it'd make contract negotiations harder with their other players.

not true.

If you want out of a situation, you do not sign an offer-sheet where you potentially commit yourself to that situation.

the relationship is/was not toxic.

There was a difference of opinion over his value. Nothing more, nothing less.

Ryan found a team that agreed with his position in terms of value and forced the Av's hand.
