Would Robi fit in Philly? They seem to need D.

Maybe we can get Doan for Rome then.

rome has been fine. I'd say meszaros is also on the block and would be a good pickup...

Adam Pardy and Aaron Rome are perfect examples of Dallas valuing players just like Engelland. You don't have to like the guy, but when you consider the recent history of the Dallas Stars and the fact Morrow is probably only waiving for a contender, Engelland is just the type of player this team has gone after in the past.

Like I mentioned in the other thread, IMO they'll move Morrow. I think they like Roussel enough that he pushes Morrow out. I can't see both Smith and Fraser going down either.

2 forwards are getting moved out. I just don't believe at this point both will be guys on two-way deals (Roussel, Fraser, or Smith).

Look at the numbers the two are putting up. I'm not saying Morrow is a world beater but his
numbers look good and he has a solid reputation around the league. If Morrow had continued his
**** numbers I would be inclined to think he should only return an Engelland type player.

Without a NTC, I agree with you. I don't think I'm being too conservative saying that Dallas is going to get a diminished value though with a limited group of trade partners.

The assumptions I've made, and to me seem reasonable, are that GMJN will probably move him East, and Morrow is only going to a top team. When you look at the top teams in the East, there aren't many roster players that immediately jump out as being available.

Hopefully he would move Morrow for a future asset, but the assumption I'm making again based on the Ryder trade and comments about last years trade deadline make it seem reasonable he'll try to turn him into a roster player.

I'm playing the percentages, or the way they appear to me at this point, and guessing this is the type of trade that happens. The biggest thing going against me though is GMJN having no problem not trading huge fan favorites like Modano and Turco in the past. The reason I think he does do that in this scenario is what I already mentioned .... I think Nieuwy is happy with two rookies in the Top 9, and I think Gulutzan will be reluctant to put Morrow on the 4th line.

Dallas' problem right now, a great one they haven't had in forever, is they have more than 12 forwards who deserve to play every night. I believed that's the reason Ryder was going to get trade for future assets. I think most people fell in that category. Obviously, that plan didn't work out. Now they still have an overflow of players and an opportunity to improve the team. I think that's what GMJN will try to do.

Does anyone else think that Gulutzan comes off smug in most interviews? It's hard to judge someone's personality based on a few videos though.

He's lied more than a couple of times during his interviews. I don't trust a thing he says.

Yah, I just don't like the guy in general....I don't remember seeing any videos where the players are actually vouching for him. Aside from his annoying pet names, I don't see him as a player's coach.

Jagr has complimented him (In Czech) on his FB. It was probably mostly a dig at Laviolette though. Something along the lines of you don't have to scream and yell to get the best out of players.

He's definitely not a guy that rides the players though. He's the opposite of Crawford who basically had no relationship with the guys.

The O'Reilly saga makes me wish our GM was a little more aggressive and cutthroat.

Picture GMJN doing the same thing as Calgary. Yeah the QO sucks next summer and O'Reilly isn't worth the money he'll be paid. That said he'd be a fantastic 2nd line center, playing with good players. By signing him Dallas trades Roy, gets younger, picks up at least a 2nd round pick for Roy, possibly moves Morrow for a pick and has a far better, younger top nine for the result. Because I think O'Reilly is better than Roy for the next four years before he becomes a UFA, even if he's 1-2 million per year over paid.

Whitney-Benn-Jagr
Smith-O'Reilly-Eriksson
Fraser-Eakin-Cole
Roussel-Fiddler-Garbutt

That's a better forward line up that costs more but assuming any kind of decent return for Roy and Morrow you probably just lose the 1st this year but get another 2nd and 3rd, plus maybe a prospect too boot.

Seeing this lineup makes me wish Joe had gotten there first.

You realize Colorado has already matched right? He's not going to CGY ... wouldn't have been coming to Dallas.

Thought this was a useful exercise, and I'm finding it hard to watch this game. The following is a list of all the rumored available D from legitimate sources (Lyle Richards' Daily Rumor Roundup) in the past 2 weeks:

Henrik Tallinder; Signed through 2014; $3.375 million Cap Hit; Owed $3.5 million in 2013-14
Shane O'Brien; Signed through 2015; $2 million Cap Hit; Owed $2 and $2.2 million
John-Michael Liles; Signed through 2016; $3.875 million Cap Hit; Owed $4.25, $4.25, and $2.75 million
Mike Komisarek; Signed through 2014; $4.5 million Cap Hit; Owed $3.5 million
Filip Kuba; Signed through 2014; $4 million Cap Hit; Owed $4.2 million
Ron Hainsey; Signed through 2013; $4.5 million Cap Hit; Owed $3 million
Tomas Kaberle; Signed through 2014; $4.25 million Cap Hit; Owed $4.5 million
Ryan Whitney; Signed through 2013; $4 million Cap Hit; Owed $5.5 million

Speculated cost is a Top 6 forward for Tallinder (laughable), and the other speculation was at least a 2nd for Hainsey.

Nah I hadn't caught up that far but man Colorado may regret that considering the issues they've had with him. Still though, gutsy move by Feaster though not necessarily the best one for that particular franchise.

There is nothing here I'd want that would cost a reasonable price to attain. Ugly list. I'll take my chances that the amateur scouts can find an CHL/AHL guy than pay a premium for any of those guys.

Again I agree with you about what they SHOULD do, but that's the type of player I expect them to go after.

EDIT: Any chance GM Joe in a desperation move sends a surprise asset or 2 to someone for a "# 1" D again ... like a last effort to save his job? Who knows who could be available ... hopefully they don't blow it again if he tries.

Calgary, with games in hand, could pass Dallas in points. They're very much alive in the playoff race, and they, like the Stars, are reluctant to sale.

If you can get him great, but what makes you think they'll actually start selling?

I can't wait for post game. Gulutzan will threaten a bag skate again. Then tomorrow the leadership will convince him to re-schedule.
