He might be worth it in a few years, he's ahead of Plekanec at the same age, but I think the Avs made a mistake matching. I'm not convinced his offensive upside is that much higher than it is right now, the best part of his game is his intelligence, not skill.
Do you know what he was asking from Avs? Wonder if he got more than what he expected.
i say that in th 5min OT, the loser should get no point. it would encourage teams to try and finish it before the shootout. would have more incentive in division games. if it goes to shootout, there is still a loser point.
Wow, shocked at the Calgary offer and now shocked that Colorado matched so quickly. I would've thought they would've made ROR and Calgary sweat it out for a few days. I can understand why Avs matched. ROR is a good young player to be sending to Calgary. He's better than Statsny who's making around the same amount. I think Statsny is probably the one to go. ROR's cap hit is $5m over 2 years while Stats is $6,6 m so they keep the better player - and younger player. Still, I would've let them sweat it out for a few days.

disagree. i think they wanted no distraction and no circus - especially during or after game

Avs want him back ASAP so they can get his value up. He will be traded as soon as possible, they have to wait a year but he is done in Colorado.

I don't think you make such a financial commitment because of a distraction.

They can't trade him until after this contract is done. One year from today they will be past next year's deadline. The earliest he can be traded will be summer 2014. By then we'll see if ROR is worth his contract. But he's still RFA with arbitration rights. Meanwhile the same summer Stats is UFA. With ROR back, I would push hard to trade Stats - hey Flames need a centre and are willing to give up their first.

We should trade for Stastny and flip him to Calgary! lol Get their first!!

Not if the NHL goes to Sochi, deadline would be early March.
In my view, Colorado would be foolish to trade ROR now that he's their player again. You have him and Duchene at age 22 down the middle, you find a way to repair the relationship with ROR.

It's a shame the Nordiques aren't around, the Avs could go full circle by ripping off the Nords for the son of Stastny.
