I really think if this team stays healthy and plays to their capabilities, they are a legit cup contender already. If we add a PPQB or fix the power play somehow.. They will be a favorite.

I hate to use YouTube but for just a quick reference to visually show what I'm talking about with Rielly.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98xH2...e_gdata_player

That kind of player would add a whole new dimension for this club.

Ya know, Skeji supposedly has that end to end ability from what I have read..

Skjei can skate. And he can rush the puck every so often. But hes more of a McDonagh type than a Letang type.

Who knows, maybe as he progresses he will do it more often.

But I'm not sure he will ever be an impact offensive player. He's a very intelligent player, though.

The Rangers have enough PMD or Dmen who have enough puck moving ability.

But none of them possess a scary shot. If the Rangers could just get a guy who can shoot hard one timers/slapshots from the point, it would help out the PP tremendously.

Part of the problem of the PP is "too many cooks in the kitchen." In other words, too many Quarterbacks on the PP.

Remember Zubov's shot? Between that ability and the fact that he was extremely good at seeing the possibilities and might just pass it, the opposition backed off. You can see when you watch the Rangers powerplay today, that that kind of respect is not there.

Lots of defencemen like that over the years, all of them integral to the success of their team.

It couldn't hurt that's for sure.

So now it's up to the Avs to match or not? Does everyone think they're matching? Does it depend on their trade talks?

I think its frustrating, that when we had McCabe-we had no quarterbacks.

Now we have 2-3, and no McCabe...

<not saying I want McCabe btw>

Great post.

PMD is a term thrown around to catergorize offensive defenseman...not all PMD are 40, 50 point players. Not all PMDs are offensive defenseman. Staal and McDonagh are both PMDs, and they're 30 point defenseman that aren't HUGE offensive factors, but capable.

A great first pass doesn't always lead to an assist.

Also, the point about the PP is a very good one...I never thought of it from that perspective before. Too MANY passers. Yeah, we seriously need a heavy shot. Still think Stralman could be our solution.

Strahlman is certainly our best option. But Torts seems to be insistent that Del Z and Richards play together on the points. Even though neither one compliments one another at all(Both are PPQB's)..

But Strahlman, despite having a nice accurate shot, certainly doesn't have a booming one. We need a guy who is not only accurate but distributes concussions to Pker's if they choose to collapse in front of their net...

If you force enemy pker's to actually have to shadow the triggerman, that opens up lateral lanes for Nash, Stepan, Gaborik etc. That means your wingers have more options along the wall. That also means that lateral box play the Rangers constantly try to do will have a lot more success.

Yeah, Del Zotto-Richards just leads to give and gos between the two at the points. It leads to overpassing and doesn't generate any chances. A heavy shooting defenseman would keep the PKers honest.

They are also both left handed so they can't take one timers.

Its not worth putting either one of them in their off positions to be set up for shooting positions. Its better their stick be along the walls to corral pucks. Both are better at passing than shooting...

I wonder if a GM (Sather) could exploit Toronto's position and potential playoff birth for the first time in nearly a decade, and steal Morgan Rielly.
If the injuries to Nash, McD and Girardi had all been as bad as originally feared and we had been doomed to missing the POs, there might have been a chance you'd see a trade like that.

As it is, I really don't see how it happens (at least not this year). If anything, Slats is going to be making moves to beef up the roster on the big club in order to improve the team's Cup chances - we might see him move one or two of our own prospects.

(Now, if he could somehow improve the current roster AND get Rielly... then, he really would be a magician. )

coughMARC ANDRE BERGERONcough

MAB on the right point and Stralman on the left. Have them just pass to each other and drop bombs from the point. Would open up down low too as PKs would HAVE to play that combo tight up high

Honestly, if any of those tradable prospects includes Krieder, I will be furious. Mark my words, Krieder will be a 30+goal scorer in the NHL...

That's a lot of money for RoR. If I was Colorado I would've taken the 2 draft picks. I dont see them getting a better return than a 1st and 3rd rounders for RoR in 12 months time when he's eligible to be traded. That 1st rounder might be a top-10 pick.

Stop with this we need a PMD...Look at BR on youtube how he ran the PP with Tampa and Dallas.. They always funneled the puck to him at the top of the umbrella and he rippped slapshots past goalies... THEY NEED TO SHOOOT!!! thats the issue, and it has nothing to do with how hard you shoot the puck..its about accuracy and get the shot through.. thats what I would be encouraging my players if I was the coach.. Every powerplay in the league has the big shot/one timmers we have all the pieces ..

Richards would occasionally get one of his point shots through on those PP units. But Richards was never the primary point shooter on any of those teams..

The Rangers need a hard shooting triggerman to play one of the off points...

i hear ya.. isn't it crazy how nash/gab are great and amazing shooters and none of them are capable of a slapper? to me thats amazing.. i don't understand all that talent and noone can just ripp it.. you think they get tapes of the best pp in the league and watch them, bc pp isn't and shouldnt be that complicated ..
