Just wanted to see if anyone else had heard this one, reliable Flyers guy at work here said he's hearing the Flyers and Habs are talking about a sign and trade deal with Gagne.
What's the word in Montreal, is this out in the media, or is it coming from Philly.
Like I said, take it for what it's worth. I'm giving it odds of 1 in 100, but still this guy at work here has some connections with former co-workers in Philly and said he heard Habs and Flyers are talking.

Does "reliable Flyers guy" mean he knows his hockey stuff, or he knows people?
I think most rumour about Gagne so far has been conjecture.
General manager Bob Clarke said yesterday that he can't go on vacation until he gets Gagne under contract.
-------------------
Gagne's signing is the major issue at the moment. Clarke and Gagne's agent, Bob Sauve, have exchanged various proposals and will talk later this week. Sauve said the sides remain apart. Is he optimistic a deal will get done this week?
"Tough to tell," Sauve said. "We still have some work to do. We exchanged new ideas last week. I hope we have a chance to do something this week."
Sauve represented Alex Tanguay, a member of Gagne's 1998 draft class whose NHL numbers are very similar. Tanguay signed a three-year, $15.75 million deal after being traded to Calgary recently. His deal averages $5.25 million, which is in the range Gagne wants.
The key is whether the Flyers think Tanguay is comparable to Gagne. Is he?
"Yeah, somewhere in that area," Clarke replied. "I don't know where we are right now. We've made a substantial offer. We've got enough money to sign Gagne and go into the season with money left over."
I doubt whether a trade for Gagne will come off. However, if it did, it could include Samsonov, who makes at least $2M less than what Gagne wants ($5-5.5M). The Habs would have to do something like that, because otherwise they'd go over the cap. A trade of prospects and young players wouldn't nearly offset Gagne's salary. Try adding up Higgins, Perezhogin, and Ryder, and you wouldn't even be close.

I would be very happy with let's say Bonk or Ribs + Sammy + 2nd rounder for him!

To answer the question, this is coming from Philly, if it is indeed coming from anywhere other than a bunch of people thought about it, which then turned into a rumor. It has been mentioned in the Montreal media, but only as speculation.
Samsonov will not be traded. Montreal has enough trouble attracting free agents, why piss in the FA pool?

Or maybe Kovalev? Since Shabutie isn't posting anymore I had to say it.
I bet most team that have a french player at one point will try to see if the Habs would overpay for him.
