Higgins. He loves the club so he's an obvious choice.

My personal choices would be:

1- Higgins: Hes got some talent, hes young and has leadership qualities.
2- Markov: Still somewhat young for a defenseman, rarely takes a game off.
3- Komisarek: Another young, solid defenseman , I think will continue to improve.
4- Plekanec: May be a surprising pick to some, but I really like his hockey sense and versatility. His work habits also seem solid.
5- Koivu: Only reason he is not first is because of his age, otherwise a great example for other players and his skills are still really good.

Hard exercise to do with a team like Montreal as they don't seem to have as of right now a main guy to build their franchise around, but a good amount of solid prospects.

Higgins, Markov and Price are the most obvious choice. If I had to pick 3 players to build my franchise around these would be them. 5 ? Markov, Higgins, Price, Koivu and Kostitsyn.

If Koivu were coming in as a rookie, I'd pick him. Unfortunately, there's been a lot of wear and tear on him, so I'd take a pass on him now. It's hard to say whom I'd pick otherwise. I'd like to start with a goaltender, but I don't know how good Carey Price will be. At defense I'd take Mark0v (just kidding, Markov). At forward I'd take Higgins, although if Kovalev were a rookie I'd take him instead. Of course I recognize that selecting Kovy is highly controversial, but he's the closest thing to a gamebreaker on the Habs, and I remember him from the Rangers Cup year.

Bggin is a much mor laughable choice. You don't build your team around a 4th liner.

You don't build or rebuild a team around a 36 years old player ( even less when his knees are in glass ) . That doesn't work when he was younger and in top shape , it's not going to work now that he's 2 years away to be retired ...

I love Higgins but you seem to dismiss his presence on the team. Where was Higgins once Koivu got injured?
Higgins scored for his teams at all the level he played . He just played with Koivu a part of the last season , so don't try to tell me that he put points just because he played with captain K.

Higgins
first 54 games 7 goals.
last 26 games 16 goals.

Also...since you ignored my previous post....I'll help you with the math...Koivu is more like 32.....

And listen....all you do here is bash Koivu every chance you get...its not verry good for your credibility.

Higgins without a doubt.

For all the people who chose Koivu, been there, tried that...

Markov could walk at any time. I'd take Higgins over Markov because he'll probably remain longer. Also, he has more room for improvement and he provides intangibles, such as leadership, that you'd never get from Markov. Of course Mark0v will always be faithful to the Habs! He'll never become a free agent.

I'd build around a young player like Higgins or AK or Perezhogin or Garvovsky if he's for real... but probably more on Higgins

Higgins did exactly the same thing with the Bulldogs the year before . He also took time to adapt to the NHL , and was playing in a defensive line the big part of the year .

And where did i bash Koivu ? did i say that he's not good or that he's not playing with heart or that he's a bad leader or what ever negative in my post ? no . i just said that Higgins has been a good player everywhere he played ,and that Koivu wasn't the '' responsable of his goals . *** ! you are so wet when you speak about Saku that you think we are bashing him when we are saying that another player is good ...

Do you really want me to start quoting your posts?...because I'll just start with the recent Saku Koivu thread.

If you build a team full of benoit brunets, patrick poulins, donald audettes, patrick traverses, and oleg petrovs around Wayne Gretzky, you still wouldn't win a cup.

The fact that our team was filled with AHLers has nothing to do with Koivu.

Nobody is bashing you for saying Higgins is good. We're bashing you since you seem to discredit Koivu every chance you get.

You can also say that Jonathan Cheechoo has scored everywhere he's played also. But you can't deny that Thornton is responsable for the breakout year Cheechoo had.

I just checked Higgins last 10 goals of the regular season, and Koivu assisted on 8 of them.
