Let me hear it, I wanna see some numbers.

(FYI right now 70% of Avs fans would let him walk)

Yes 100% top 2 centerman that is 22 and could very well be a #1 center for a first rounder than most likely is around 10 and at the very best could be a #1 centermen if we are lucky.

IMO it's a great move! The 6.5 is a bit much but you always have to over pay on offer sheets. Other than that it's great because if we get him and he helps us make the playoffs than great! Those picks we give to Colorado will be late and won't matter as much, if we don't make the playoffs than feaster probably sells players such as stempniak and sarich at the deadline for 2nds and 3rds and gets a few picks back.

So either we get o'reilly who is only 22 and has the potential to be a 1C and we make the playoffs or we don't make the playoffs, get a few picks at the deadline and we still have a 22 year old centre who has 1C potential.

Too early to tell. WAYYY too many factors to say if this is a good move RIGHT NOW or not. Plus he hasn't even signed here yet.

Depends where the pick is and if we make the playoffs.

Too early to tell. It can very well end up a "It seemed like a good idea at the time" scenario.

I like it we've got the wingers just no centers. At least Feaster is doing something.

They might've dodged a bullet too. The question is where does Calgary go from here?

It's a yes right now. We need centers but this will be a future decision dependent on factors:
1. Can O'reilly be a top 2 center and put point like he has last year
2. Where that 1st round pick in the draft ends up
3. What that pick(s) turns into

I think it was a good move and I thought it would work, but apparently not. Good on Feaster for trying.

I would guess try to be a playoff team and if not tear it down and rebuild around guys like Sven and O'Reilly if he signs

Continue with the current course. Keep trying to build a team that's at best, only good enough to squeak into 8th spot and hope for another cinderella run. Well, at least until Iginla walks as a UFA and Kipper retires. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens after that.

Dunno about it making us a playoff team. I'll wait and see before I say that. But, overall I think it's a good move, given that management/ownership has shown they are not willing to do a full rebuild. ROR helps us both now and in the future.

Of course, lets wait and see if the deal goes through.

The clock is ticking on both of those players though. As a GM do you try and get an asset out of them that will be useful when it is more realistic for the team to compete for a cup, or do you just ride them out into old age? If the object is to win the cup then I think a rebuild is the only realistic option, at least as far as we can see. If the goal is to field as best a team as Calgary can then they might end up in a perpetual treadmill of mediocrity.

Evidence suggests the Flames' organization is more interested in making the playoffs then building a consistent, longterm Cup contender.

But the Iginla situation is interesting. It doesn't appear as though he's all that interested in signing an extension. One would think he'd have done so by now if that was what he wanted to do. At the same too, the organization hasn't had any serious contract extension talks with him. If the team's not in a playoff spot on April 1st, then I don't think the team has a choice really - they have to move him if they can.

Way to go Feaster, you just made the division that much tougher. Accomplished nothing except to give a division rival their 1C back.

This would have been a good move but I just see Feaster getting more and more desperate. I just hope he doesn't give away assets for a mediocre vet.

Seems like it could be very possible another move is already in place. Feaster isn't stupid, I don't thing he would devalue our current assets by putting himself in a situation where he had to move someone to make cap next year. It could also explain the poor timing on the offer sheet

Poor? It was brilliant they had to accept in a matter of hours in order to trade him next year or risk him walking for nothing if they don't want to offer him 6.5 million.

I'm disappointed that we're not getting O'Reilly, but at the same time I'm relieved that we're keeping our picks, especially our 1st. Could be a top 10 pick.

You'd think the Flames sent an offer sheet to Toews or Mike Richards with these poll options. O'Reilly alone wouldn't make this team a playoff team.

He would make us a 9th place team likely, which means a pick in the 13th range. No player we pick there is likely to become as good as ROR.

I think it was a smart move, ROR would have been way overpaid but that's typical Flames anyways.

I agree with a poster above, i fear Feaster is going to make a stupid decision soon (like sending our first to NYR for Richards)
