Off topic but nice to see another State College resident on here.

This blows about Gus because he's been getting better and is definitely a better option than Foster and Lilja. Our D was ready to look pretty decent with Meszaros coming back.

It could be a day to day thing. I think he blocked a shot w/ his shin in the 2nd so I doubt it's a another broken foot but obviously that doesn't mean it's not serious. Should have an update today or tomorrow.

Gus was playing really well (only had 1 bad game IMO) and with Mez on his way back I was feeling optimistic about the defense.

I hope it's a day to day thing. Gus has had some freak injuries in his time in Philadelphia. Hopefully he remained out of last night's game as a precaution. He's been playing some big minutes since coming back to the big club and hasn't looked out of place.

We're talking about a Flyers player here. Of course it's a broken foot.

Rob Parent is reporting it is a possible groin injury... ( http://delcosports.blogspot.com/ )

Quote:
Flyers defenseman Erik Gustafsson went out of tonight's 4-1 Flyers victory over the Washington Capitals after taking a shot off his shin.
Afterward, Gustafsson, who missed a lot of games with the Phantoms after going out with a broken ankle -- suffered after he blocked a shot -- in December, said this injury is on his other leg.

But sources say Gustafsson isn't dealing with the after-effects of a shot to the shin, but rather a possible pulled groin muscle. Either way, Gustafsson, while not revealing the nature of the injury, is hopeful it doesn't turn out to be a serious one.

"Obviously you don't want to be injured but it's part of the game," he said. "Stuff happens. It got treated ... I'll be back sooner rather than later."

From Frank @ Daily News: ( http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/...a_laugher.html )

Gustafsson hurt

Another game, another injury for the Flyers. Defenseman Erik Gustafsson, who has been an important, mobile addition since his recall from Adirondack, left 7 minutes into the second period and did not return.

Officially, the Flyers called it a "lower-body" injury, but Gustafsson was suffering from groin discomfort. The injury is considered to be relatively minor. Gustafsson told reporters postgame that blocking a shot caused a shin injury. He missed more than a month of action in the AHL with an ankle fracture in December.

those asking: Gustafsson made it sound as if his shin injury is not serious last night from shot block
-----------------------

Sarah @ CSN... ( http://www.csnphilly.com/flyers/flye...akes-shot-shin )

Quote:
“He hit me on the [left] shin pad. It’s OK, just a lower-body injury,” Gustafsson said.

Asked if he can play Saturday against Ottawa, he replied, “We’ll see. It got treated and we’ll see how fast it goes. I’ll be back sooner than later.”

As for pain, he said, “It’s not great, but it could definitely be worse.”

He knows worse. Gustafsson previously blocked a shot while playing with the Adirondack Phantoms on Dec. 15, 2012 and missed six weeks with a fracture in his lower right leg.
-------------------

There is an optional skate today (Thursday), not a full practice.

Doesn't sound like anything major, thank God. Would be nice to see our top 6 D men all in the lineup together.

Sounds like he will probably miss only a couple of games at worst.

Honestly again!? I have been loving his play and he always seems to play well then get injured I think he provides this team with a lot with his puck movement ability and had been providing us with quality minutes

Hopefully he only misses a game or two, if any. By the time he's back, Meszaros might also be looking at a return?

I read "Injury Report: Erik Gustafsson (lower body injury, reported as shin or groin, Feb. 27)"
and thought how in the hell do those two things get confused?

He has both injured, in separate games. The daily double.

That's good news, we should know more after practice today (noon I think). It's an early game tomorrow so unless he's a game time decision we should know later today if he's good to go. I really hope he doesn't miss significant time if any.

As an undersize defenseman he will have to learn to play through some pain to take all those hits and bruises, much like Timonen.

Hope he can shake it off and not reaggrevate those injuries.
